I've been around here for about 16 months and I love this site. One quirky thing I've noticed, though, is that certain oils seem to pick up momentum and become the flavor of the month. When I first came on board last winter, Motorcraft was all the rage. By summer, Valvoline DuraBlend produced some great UOAs and was rumored to cure cancer. For awhile this winter, TropArtic came out of nowhere and got love. This spring, we really, really love Pennzoil.

Nothing wrong with it, but I do wonder of there is some groupthink/echoing at work here from time to time.

Yeah, the censoring software here is pretty bad.

I didn't jump on the Vavlo bandwagon, I just don't like their products. Just my opinion.

My opinion of PZ was confirmed by really good UOA's.

Something's going on!

That Durablend's good stuff though. Not feeling the love for PP. "On the fence" when it comes to SynPower. Why the hate for RP?

From what I have seen Motorcraft and thus its siblings (Conoco, TropArtic, Kendall, 76) are still rated very well, and popular for their price.

Valvoline Maxlife for its heavier 30 wt on older cars is still popular.

Havoline was a darling with great results (my UOA was in there too) but alas a reformulation and price increase killed its cult following.

Pennzoil it probably the latest in this string for solid results and belief that it is almost a synthetic for crying out loud. Pennzoil is not cheap but seems to be on the QUALITY side of the Dino Market.

On the synthetic side PP seems to keep doing well and growing against the M1 and Amsoil crowd but not many other get much love.

Pretty bad is putting it lightly.

I actually got some Pennzoil freebate from PepBoys and was surprised how smoothly it ran in the two viscs I got 5w-30 and 10w-40. The 10w-40 was so good, it became an easy favourite. Now I scored some PZ SUV $.01c closeout and am looking forward to using it.

So the word ****ed is not censored, but the G.O.D is?

I thought the devil used Pennzoil? Also, Arnold Palmer secretly wants all motors to sludge up with a waxy buildup, and the co-conspirator Quaker State has teamed up to sludge motors across the planet to smoke and seize up. This is getting confusing..

I have heard the Palmer/Pennzoil/QS theory and it seems pretty sound. They are also in a plot with the Bush family to use Pennzoil on Air Force One so it will get waxy round about the time Obama starts using it.

As far as Royal Purple, the reason it doesn't get as much love here is because it's purple. Didn't Barney teach Royal Purple anything. Nobody likes purple anything after Barney was so overexposed in this country a few years back.

Don't forget "Prince." Donny's socks also come to mind...

I've said too much.

No wonder Air Force One just recently changed protocol for extended oil changes. The plot thickens.

I've noticed and commented on that before myself. It is inescapably true that fads run though communities, even faceless ones like BITOG.

Hi,
AJ - A little history:

In New Zealand about 1952 my father had a flat top '39 Ford V8 and we used SAE30 oil in it. About 1953 Mobil introduced "Mobiloil Extra 10w-30" in gold coloured 1 pint cans - so I used it

It was said to have a 300% increase in "Super-Detergent Additives" and to reduce "Friction by 51%, Abrasion by 39% and Corrosion by 10%" They failed to say that it also increased oil consumption by 100%!!! The Fraud V8 did not like it at all

I quickly switched to the very expensive Pennzoil 10w-30 and everything returned to normal again! It was made from "genuine Pennslyvanian Crude - the World's best"

It was a great product but was later withdrawn from NZ because of its cost and low sales
