I'm just drooling over this car

The 283 used a small bore which limited breathing due to small valves. It was not a good engine.
They could be woken up pretty easily-camel humps, a moderate cam, & a single plane aluminum intake were a good start. The bored out 283 in my brother's CJ doesn't do bad (aluminum heads, 302 CI, headers, VV Edelbrock carb)-any more motor he would start breaking stuff... (friends in the day had experience in this area with a CJ-7, a built 401 out of an Ambassador or Matador?-CRUNCH went the driveshafts, transmission, axles...).

Nice beater ...... those Rally Wheels are one of the best OEM wheel ever made . IMO
Thanks! Those are 16x8 Wheel Vintiques Chrome Ralleys with 255x50x16 Comp TAs.
I have 5 of the 1 year only 15x7 Corvette Ralley Wheels but the low profile, fatter rubber is just about right on this car.

Sure; that was the ticket back in the day. But why build that limited bore 283? At least use a 4" bore, like the 327 and 350. Of course, a 283 crankshaft in a 4" bore makes a pretty magical engine, the legendary 302 screamer!

Nice car on nice period wheels. I like 70's-80's aluminum aftermarkets.

To each his/her/its own.

Remember the DZ 302 was rated at 290 HP, right? Wink-wink.
Maybe at lower rpm, but these oversquare engines had a big fat Holley fuel dumper and could rev to 7,000 RPM.
And then there was the '69 Cross Ram...

When I was in high school those Z28s were popular and they ran like stink and sounded really good 2 of my friends had them one a 68 the other a 69. Why do I remember these things! . I turned 16 in 1969 and The night before my 16th birthday I had a vivid dream that my parents bought me a 69 Z28 for a birthday gift. When I woke up I ran to the garage and nope there wasn't a Z28. Still the dream haunts me.

They will go 8000 with the 140 offroad cam and a little more spring. Recommend a windage tray though if running that high regularly.
