I like how Hyundai is giving the hatch buyer another option, and not decontenting the car for those few of us who want a stick! That is closer to addressing my complaint about not offering a stick on anything but the stripped-out base cars. Time will tell if the GT can be optioned with a stick and all the goodies.
I'd be giving this a hard look if I were in the market for a car.

I traded a 2012 Sonata with 5000 miles on it for a 2012 Cruze LT two weeks ago. The Hyundai made me happy when I looked at it in the driveway. The Cruze makes me happy when I drive it!
The Hyundai was all about form with no substance. The Cruze just the opposite. I have over 1,000 on it in two weeks. The Cruze is a better driver's car in every way. Better handling, fuel mileage, less road noise and engine noise. Stay with your Cruze.

Yes, I gave up some interior room in the Sonata but interior room means nothing if the car is miserable to drive.

This sounds too fishy to me. Are you part of some automotive union? Have you or do you work for the Big-3?

Hey, I've had 3 cars last year

08 Yaris, 11 Ranger, 12 Honda. Its tough to find a good car that will run on swamp water. The honda does not seem to want to ...

I did compare the 2011 Elantra sedan to a Buick LeSabre for ride/handling when I test drove a 2011 Elantra, then hopped right into my Buick. Same ride and worse handling, with the Buick being far more willing to change directions. I still stand by that assessment. Elantra sedan vs. Cruze for driving dynamics, the Cruze beats the Elantra hands-down. We'll see if the hatchback Elantra fixes those dynamic shortcomings of the sedan. I hope it does, as I have a soft spot for Elantras wearing hatches, having owned an Elantra station wagon that was an absolute ball to drive.

I don't know....Hyundai Elantra vs. LeSabre. Hyundai Sonata vs. Cruze.

Seems too fishy to me. Maybe it's part of the "American Pride" ignorance like I've been noticing so far on BITOG.

Some guy at work was comparing a Cadillac DeVille with a BMW M3....his bumper sticker says "Buy American, Buy Union".

Try adding some RLI Bio-Plus at each fill-up, works great for me.

I've been on this forum for nearly 10 years. It's ridiculous to imply that I'm here to push a buy American agenda. I would have more than a handful of posts if that were the case.

No connection at all to the Big Three. Just sharing my experience.

Seems to me that these are odd comparisons. Sonata and Cruze? I would expect better dynamics and mileage from a Cruze in that match up. To me the Sonata competes more with a Malibu or even an Impala. Cruze vs. Elantra would be a better match wouldn't it?
And the LeSabre out handles the Elantra? Really? Wow, I like the look of them, both the sedan and the new hatch but I guess I need to drive one. Was thinking that the sedan and 5speed hatch would be a nice pair to have in the driveway but now the wife wants to look at a small SUV for her next set of wheels.

After owning a 2012 Sonata for 6 months and hating it, I spent quite a few hours looking for something to replace it. I traded for a Cruze because I wanted something with better driving dynamics and fuel mileage but didn't want to put out a lot of money to get something better. The MSRP was withing a few hundred dollars. The weight is nearly the same. Front seat room is nearly identical. The trunk is about the same. The biggest difference is rear seat room. Don't use that much so that doesn't matter.
Yes, I get the Sonata/Cruze/Malibu comparison. If you look at the EPA specs, Malibu interior space is 95 cubic ft. v Cruze 94 cubic ft. Trunk space is the same.

So far I got everything I wanted. I'm getting nearly 10 mpg more in the Cruze than the Sonata under the same conditions.

The Cruze slots right in between the Sonata and the Elantra size-wise. It weighs the same as a Sonata, and is only 7 inches shorter. The wheelbase is only 5 inches shorter. The Cruze is a small midsize car while the Sonata is a large midsize car. The Cruze is down 10 cubic feet in the cabin and 1 cubic foot in trunk space. MSRP of a mid-level Cruze is the same as a more basic Sonata.

And yes, I preferred the handling of my old Buick LeSabre over a 2011 Elantra Limited. The Buick drove like a boat that changed directions quickly, if ponderously. The Elantra sedan drove like a boat that was equally as ponderous without the saving grace of changing direction. It did not inspire confidence with its handling, seeing how it treated turns as obstacles to be avoided.

As I've said, I loved the dynamics of my old Elantra station wagon. The added weight over the back helped make it more neutral around corners, and it willingly changed direction. Combined with an okay stick-shift, and that car was a lot of fun to drive.

I hope this new hatch drives like my old Elantra wagon than a 2011-2012 Elantra sedan.

What? You are not allowed to criticize the Korean God Hyundai!

They are the BEST CARS EVER!!!

Atleast he didn't buy a dodge(joke). I for one believe that one car is not for everybody. I might still be in an american car if it were not for local dealers.

I do it for a reason. Hyundai doesn't deserve to be hated. Every time they get better, for some odd reason the haters become stronger. Majority of the haters are the ones stuck in 1980's and/or in an American pride cult and/or Chrysler, GM, Ford fanboys and/or people who just hate South Korea.

I love American cars and they are in the same shoes as the Koreans: everyone is pooping on them.

Perhaps you should read what a respected automotive journalist says instead of the popular media that simply manipulates you.

No hate for the mighty Hyundai here. But they have a long way to go in refinement yet. The last one I drove fluttered the floorboards on rough road and had some terrible steering issues. And they simply do not handle as well as many similar marques.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine is quite different from yours. Can you deal with that?

Again, just because someone doesn't like the way a Hyundai drives doesn't mean they're plants.

Hyundai has some of the worst driving dynamics on the road, brand-wide. Get over it. It's great they've turned around in the last 10 years and now do an excellent job copying other manufacturers styling and competing on comparison checklists with other manufacturers.

I agree with you. My MIL was recently given a brand new Sonata loaner car when her vehicle was being worked on at the dealership. I really like the exterior of the Sonata and was anxious to drive it as I was considering it for a future vehicle purchase. The thing rode like a boat and was a huge disappointment. Hyundai/Kia may have come a long way, but they still have a ways to go.

Popinski, have you driven a current generation Sonata?

Yeah but you don't need to be a hypocrite. Chrysler/Dodge, even though I like them, I know that they are not that good. Anything below a Challenger, Charger and 300 is pure garbage. Hopefully the new Italian/Korean/American Dart will change something.

Uneducated and ignorant people would say that. Do some research too. Know the difference between influence and copy.

Japanese manufacturers made custom bikes to compete with Harley Davidson. They have similar design cues. But people say that they're "influence". The japanese make full-size pickups so they can go head to head with American pickups and it is called "influence".

Koreans make things to compete with others and it's called "copy".

I've said this a billion times on here but people just don't get it. Uneducated and ignorant. The only thing I need to get over are people like you. Uneducated and ignorant.
