2015 Impala, looking for assistance on replacing the ignition switch. Is this simply removing the steering column plastic or more involved? Any precautions needed before removing the old one?

It may need programming for starters. Have you confirmed the issue is in fact the switch?
Not yet, but willing to try as it's not that expensive. Was making a momentary sudden "bump" sensation like it lost power and I was thinking TCC slip. But then later on the same drive the dash gauges starting acting goofy, like they were restarted, speedo swinging full arc, traction control light flashed then when the key was moved to "START" and released all was suddenly good....zero issues for the next 2 hours of driving.

I'm not sure what climate you live in, it's colder than usual here at the moment, so I would start with the basics. Have your electrical system tested first; charging and starting.

You should able to find on example on You Tube. I’m Chevy GMT 900 trucks it is easy. Pop off the plastic tip above above and below the steering column. Follow the simple instructions from there.

The TCM will do this - check for transmission codes before going after the switch.

Ok, was also considering grounding issues but the chassis is fairly clean.

Also, we had warnings flash across for power steering, stabilitrak, the parking brake light illuminated, speedometer was dancing around...but a quick turn of the key forward to START while the engine was running instantly returned all to normal.

Not saying it's not a TCM, but does this look like a voltage loss issue or something else?
