Another "trick" is to use a straight razor - That ought to last you your whole life! (Caution: Your "whole life" may be shortened dramatically if you use the straight razor improperly...)

Razors are indeed getting ridiculous concerning price.
I recently dug up and tried using an old safety razor with disposable blades.
It is not as good as even cheapo throw away twin blade designs.
You have to be very careful, and double blades [or more] really are the way to go.
And I always wonder about the validity of 'glide/lubricant' strips on modern razors. They are always AFTER the cutting edge!.

I find razors simply get dull from cutting. Like a chainsaw, circular saw, or whatever blade. Corrosion is not a problem , IMO.

I already get an incredibly long life out of the last evolution of wizbang razors.

The homeless shelter got a bunch of trial Fusions that weren't delivered by the post office. Apparently they gave them way more than one per address. We handed them out and at the end of the season we still had plenty. I took one home. My wife threw it away because she got tired of seeing it in the shower. That's where I shave. It was well over 6 months old.

Now you had to work with it as it aged to get a really close shave, but since I have facial hair anyway, and I'm not going to be giving her or anyone else "brush burn" ..

I just broke down and bought a new Fusion and a 4 pack of replacement blades.

I just wash it off good when done and put it up on ledge of the shower.

My brother sent me something like this a while ago. He stores his Gillette blades in mineral oil and sharpens them / dries them with Denim. He shaves every day and says the blades will last him a couple months easily whereas before he used to have to replace it bi-weekly.

It does work..

Don't get that "razor sharpener" they show on tv. I cut myself rather well with the "freshly sharpened" blade. Scam that stuff is.

Hi all,

I shave with an heirloom, an over 40 year old Gillette Slim Adjustable double edge razor. My favorite are Feather blades. With them, a shave becomes truly a surgical procedure! One blade lasts me a week if I shave daily. I can get 100 blades for under $40. That's two years worth of blades. I would never waste my money on disposable razors that don't shave that well anyway.

Cheers,
-J

My problem is that I use a Mach 3, and have used a Mach 3 for 12 years or so. The single razor orange Bics' aren't as clean when cutting. The Mach 3 makes cleaning a breeze but its expensive(I buy a 3 pack of full razors, not the cartridge style one). I typically don't get much use past 5 or 6 shaves. I'll have to try this out.

I may just go old school and get the razor blade in a shaving handle!.

Electric shavers are no where near as close as razors. I get a closer, cleaner shave and I can line the goatee out with a razor blade. I had a Norelco and a Braun both of which were expensive and horrible. Not to mention I can shave quicker with a razor than an electric shaver because its never 100% even.

I used to shave almost every day before I was married. When I got married, my wife insisted that I shave only once a week. No more and no less. Razors last me a long time.

Gotcha
When I was a kid the ole man told me to use an electric razor and glad I did

I get almost a week's worth of life out of Personna twin-blade disposable razors.
A ten-pack costs $.99 at the "99 cents only" store.
The shave quality is great. I shave my face and scalp in the shower and use Barbasol.

I know a great way to save money on shaving: use a double-edged razor.

I wet shave with a brush, a bowl, either shaving cream in a tube or hard shaving soap, a double edged razor and my choice of blades. My favorite blades (Red IPs, if you're into this stuff) are dirt cheap - maybe 5¢ each, and I get an easy 3 shaves off each one. I've got about 7 razors, which are still being produced by Merkur among others, but my favorite is the 1965 Gilette Adjustable Slim my Dad handed down to me.

And it forces you from using the HURRY UP SHAVE FAST NOW NOW NOW mentality that multi-blade razors have embraced - so you'll get an OK shave with zero thought or effort - and into a mindset where you can take your time and actually enjoy the process.

the argument is that the hair doesn't dull it, the corrosion does---and after the first shave, the protective film is removed so the 2nd or 3rd shave is better..... like cutting paper or wood with a knife, a saw will dull, but I do think there is something to this(the corrosion) as even with CHEAP dollar store razors, some people are going months with daily shaving.
