The inaccurate title still drives me nuts, this is incorrect.
"ICE vehicles will be 75% of US car market in 2025"
Also lets not lose site that 2% of the vehicles on the road are EVs and the other 98% are fossil fuel. 35% of that 2% is in California.

IT SHOULD READ

ICE vehicles are forecast to make up 90% of US car market in 2025 and Electric Vehicles are forecast to make up 10% of the sales market.

What I find funny is that EVs at 10% of sales was considered the finish line of full adoption decades ago .

At that point it was assumed the market was fully past early adoption, self supporting, with no further investment required.

Some really like the dramatics of using the term mandate.

Aspirational goal that drives no actual action =. Forcing people to own them.

Lots of mental gymnastics the last 10 years going on.

You would think these guys went home and were literally beat up kidnapped and glued to an EV seat and steering wheel. (Actual image of bittogger being held by .gov officials being force fed EV pizza)

That's old news now, I don't see mandates being a problem anymore with the new admin. I can keep my gas stove and hot water heater now, as far as I can tell they're out of the crosshairs, and ICE is going to live on considerably longer. Win win.

Way to miss my point.

If we are going to talk facts, that has never been the case. It was always nothing but projection and blatant lies (gas stoves and water heaters). But, people need to be angry at something.
On other hand, 2035 mandate by CA and CARB (CO governor immediately said that that won’t fly here) is big problem. It is not problem per se that it is mandate (there are really good things that are banned etc. which large corporations would love to use, lead, asbestos etc.) but that brunt of cost is falling on small guy. While we are moving vehicles to 0W8 oils hoping to squeeze last drop of mpg and save planet, Chinese, Austrslians etc. are burning coal like crazy. At the same time tech companies who like to preach environmentalism, and whose COE’s must have Tesla in driveway to “send message “ about environmental responsibility, suddenly found out that AI labs like A LOT of energy. Coal? Who cares, just bring it on. Yet, let’s make sure we shovel CVT and 0W0 into your vehicle, otherwise we will all gonna die.
Like most things, answer is in the middle.

Yes some good things came from Mandates, and some bad. Talk about angry, check out what the NY Governor is/was trying to push through regarding gas for stoves, heat and hot water. The NY electric grid is decades away from being ready of the go green agenda. At least now things can progress more sensibly imo.

I am talking federal level. You have a lot of crazy ideas everywhere. I was political consultant in Alabama. Stories I can tell you!
Problem in general is that politicians like that don’t talk TO people, but AT people. That is most common disconnect.

What’s amusing is people are overly concerned about EV energy use and pollution but Crypto uses 25x more power than all the EVs combined and AI is slated to be 100x and literally nobody cares

The entire power generation of 3 mile island is going private off grid to power 1 companies datacenter.

There has been talk of rebuilding the melted unit 2 into a different type of reactor once unit 1 is “payed off” so to say.

All over the continent derelict power plants are being shunted into crypto or ai power sources. Because these are usually not supplying the grid and ma jobs their pollution is usually not as closely monitored or regulated.

My opinion is that we are dazzled with bs and worrying about the things that don’t actually matter while our future is pulled out from under us as our public infrastructure is privatized or bought out by foreign buyers. Currently Saudis under a deal (under a week old) are going to get some level of ownership of massive amounts of land, farms, water, mines and other industrial resources .

Not sure anyone here wanted to be signed up for that, see if it goes all the way to fruition.

IIRC some of these "AI Centers" being built in the US are proposing building their own small nuclear plants to power them. Interesting times are coming.

At least in terms of TMI, it's still under NRC regulation, no matter who owns it, so the same safety standards apply. Would be nice to see the other unit resurrected actually, as maybe an AP1000 or something.

The most disappointing part of this thread is that many people actually believe there is a Federal “EV mandate”. That’s never been a thing. 🤦‍♂️
@JeffKeryk @Torrid (in the interest of accuracy)

The most disappointing thing part of this thread is critical thinking. There has never been an EV mandate however, it was estimated by the EPA that it would force legacy makers to build significantly more EVs in order to meet emission requirements. You can call it what you want but that is a mandate and the EPA acknowledges its effect.

This is EASY to find on the internet, an executive order was issued to stop this insanity below. Im not providing a link easy to find and no politics in here.

"The orders include eliminating the so-called "electric vehicle mandate," (deleted the name) phrase for a Environmental Protection Agency rule that required auto manufacturers to cut greenhouse gas emissions by half in new light- and medium-duty vehicles beginning in 2027.
The EPA has estimated the rule would force auto manufacturers to build electric vehicles for about 30% to 56% of their new light-duty vehicles by 2032 and 20% to 32% of new medium duty vehicles."

If someone doesn't see this as a mandate, well .... does someone have another meaning for the word "FORCE" ??????

I mean come on now, my only interest is accuracy and some of your comments are completely incorrect.

AG, you are arguing with yourself.

By the way, I am referring to a Federal mandate; there have been state mandates. Not sure what you are referring to and don't wanna put words in your mouth.

Critical thinking refers to making a judgement based on analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting information. That judgement is not necessarily correct. There is no federal EV mandate.

Obviously we will never agree as to the intent of the EPA which is a FEDERAL agency.

I'll defer back to this, from post #278 Im not sure how this can be taken any other way but obviously it has

How does someone misinterpret the word "force" would be my question
