I just came back after being banned for weeks

for posting a link to a Chinese blog with video of examples of bad Chinese drivers costing a lot of lives. Even though the blog was written 99% in Chinese, some joker wrote an F word and I missed that.

The ban massage from BITOG read that I was banned for posting a link to Youtube with obscenities.

Again, the link I posted was not YOUTUBE.

If BITOG decides to ban for posting links to blogs, it is fine with me, but it HAS to disclosed in the BITOG rules.

In case I missed it, please show me the rule about banning for linking to blogs.

I'm perfectly fine with obeying forum rules when the rules are clearly stated.

The rules prohibit linking to any material which may contain "family unfriendly" content. I've learned this myself, it's better to err on the side of caution lest thou be strucketh with ze banhammer.

With that said, getting you banned for weeks under this circumstance was a bit harsh, but I guess it's up to the discretion of the owners/mods. Let's hope they exercise good judgement.

I'm curious what happens in a situation when you post a link to some video that's clean, but then a few hours later someone on that video page adds a vulgar or otherwise inappropriate comment that violates BITOG rules. Do you still get punished for posting the link to this video?

I think the best rule might be to never link to anywhere on the internet, ever. Because somewhere, some time, in some place either past, present, or future, someone out there might or might not say a bit of foul language. And then, in a fit of pure, blind, snow-white innocence, a child who has never seen or heard such an unspeakable utterance might click the link, read every comment, and be defiled by the experience.

And if that were to happen, Santa Claus might not visit you at Christmastime.

I understand about keeping the site PG-13 but how is a forum about oil a "family" type place. Do people sit by the computer with their kids and discuss UOAs together with fellow BITOGers commenting as well? I don't get it. I thought i joined an adult forum, not a place where i get

for having a potty mouth.

Oh well, it is what it is. I've been on here for a very short amount of time and have been banned multiple times already for what i thought were minor, childish things and not something that deserves a few weeks ban from the site. My latest was for "putting down a member for their choice of vehicle" Geez. All i said was "why would anyone want to put money into an old car like that is beyond me"

Ive been banned because I made a post that was almost all [censored]. Even though it was all [censored] since you can read it when you click the quote button, which I didnt know, it was deemed excessive.
So I now I actually type out [censored] when I want to get across that something is bull [censored].

What about the suggestion of a swear word that might be inferred by the intentional self-censoring of the post?

Thoughtcrime.

Someone, despite never having seen a swear word before, might imagine a word worse than the intended word. That would be a travesty. I think instead of the word "censored", there should be another, happier term that could fit in place of the swear word, with each swear word having it's own custom replacement. This would cut down on the incidence of crimethink among the masses of innocent BITOGers.

LOL, That reminds me of a video I seen the other day where someone took parts of an episode of My Little Pony and added censor *beeps* to the dialog in various places. It had me crying!
I was going to list possible replacements here, but then I realized that would require other people knowing what it was going to replace..

Don't feel bad, i was banned for a month for posting a "learn english" video of a non English speaking family singing along a non family friendly song in English.

Then I was warned for posting a video of "[illegal] alien vs predator" and somehow there's a scene with a wall poster in the background with nudity that no one have noticed.

The rule is strict and robotics, we all get banned or warned once in a while.

Technically, discrimination against blonde, discussion about illegal and legal immigrant, class warfare, etc are perfectly within the PG13 limit here so feel free to cause trouble in these area as much as you want. A free for all food fight waiting to happen.

I appreciate the warning for others.

My work computer has no speakers in an effort to increase productivity.

If I link to youtube from there I have to remember for sure the voice over is Flanders friendly.

I actually think it's a good lesson to see. I saw the video(

), but didn't download the Chinese language add on. I didn't see/hear any banned language, but it must have been there.

Lesson being, always better if one can post up just the video with no comments seen. As this wasn't a youtube vid, prehaps not possible, so posting is risky.

As for banning, live and learn, it happens.

Personally, I love BITOG and I'm glad we have some rule inforcement! I have seen the carnage that can develope when no one cares enough...to pay attention. JMHO

Come on, you're splitting hairs. You posted a link to a video with commentary, and somewhere in there were obscenities. Plain and simple, that's an absolute no-no here. Don't pretend to not understand because the message mentioned YouTube-YouTube is becoming generic for on line video much like Kleenex is any tissue or Xerox is any copy.

It's clear to 99% of the posters here what is and is not acceptable; I'll never understand why the remaining 1% don't understand what is and is not acceptable and can't fathom why they were banned when they post unacceptable material.
