I Hope M&H Don't Try To Improve The Wix Filter

Hi ZeeOSix...
I would not be buying any of those filters so i won't have to be looking to see if they did not screw it up by not opening up the slits all the way. I will be using better filters but thank you for your educated reply.
Im sticking with the Fram Ultra or the Wix if they don't "improve" it. If the Wix starts tearing they may try to improve it by slowing down the flow like the others and if that happens im done with them also. Someone said what will i do if all the filters were made that way..LOL i don't want to think of that!

^^^ I doubt Fram has any plans of changing the Ultra, knowing it is well liked for it's quality and performance. So I wouldn't worry about not having a few good filters to choose from.

Frams don't seem very holy to me. The owner even has a helicopter on his new yacht. Some of the louvered filters may be the holiest you can find. So many previously good holy filters are going to louvers, just to appear more holy.
OK I overdid it. Oh well. It's supposed to be an escape, looking at what's being said about oil filters, isn't it? Do people here tell other people they read oil filter forums? Or hide the fact?

I never paid attention to the holes(shape and/or size ...) in the center tube of any filter for more than 30 years and none of my cars ever had problem with oil.

It's just BITOG OCD.

Maybe they will fix the issues with the Napa Platinum

Wait until the MH accountants come through WIX and force WIX to apply some cost cutting measures. It's good to have an alternate checked out ahead of time.

That's one nice thing about being in Canada. If something goes awry with Wix, we're so far down the logistical food chain that I'll see the trouble coming on BITOG before the stuff makes it to my parts store. Hastings and Baldwin are certainly good alternatives, and I've used Hastings in the past and very likely will again.

"IF' using a louvered centertube (which is the specific reference of this topic) is a cost cutting measure, I've seen no published evidence that said change is one that negatively affects filter performance. Apparently Clarcor/Baldwin/Hastings and Champ would agree.

In fact, Clarcor/Hastings has information on their site, and previously posted by another member, that the louvered design 'maximizes flow while maintaining strength.' That said, I have no concerns about oil filter flow in pc use. So as I've said in past, louvers or holes, either way much ado about nothing.

And as there's been no change to the Wix centertube design, the point is currently moot anyway.

There have been a few concerns in the past about louvered center tubes not having very open slits - photos showing slits that are barely opened up. So if buying filters with a louvered center tube, be sure to take a look to make sure the slits are opened up pretty good and don't have paper thin openings.

I'd have no problem with that at all, obviously since I use Hastings, too. As long as I don't see brittle media, tears, and so forth, I'm happy.
