I bought a 2017 Lincoln Navigator L

In NYC and surrounding suburbs black car service is extremely common. Corporate and upper middle class use car service to get to airports,a night out in NYC, drop late night home from work and stuff like that. NYC is loaded with black SUVs it's a big business. Any full-size black SUV in the used car market that was registered in NYC or areas I would not buy.

I know it's a gamble on buying used and then throw in commercial use to boot.

However, I will say that my F-350 and now this Navigator seemed to be some of the best commercial buys I've ever had so little complaints.

The F-350 interior was surprisingly perfect and this one isn't bad at all. Lucky? Probably

One wiper quit while out. Got back home and tore into it. The rod wore out and someone zip tied it back together. 😂

Pulled it all out including the motor &I have a new one coming in the mail.

Reminds me of a much newer, much nicer version of the Ford Expedition we had for several years. Good for road trips and hauling tons of stuff around in the back. I even moved some furniture in ours a couple of times. Downside is they're pretty thirsty. Can't imagine driving anything that big again. Parking was never fun.

If they used zip ties on the wipers, imagine what the rest of the maintenance (or lack thereof) looks like. Definitely flush the brake fluid and I would change all other fluids.

Here's my fuelly

I would flush the brake fluid. If they left the filter like that I would be shocked if they didn't just top off the master cylinder.

Of course this band aid zip tie repair doesn't inspire high confidence but I'm getting it fixed & it's fixable for few hundred bucks so It'll survive another day. I'll certainly do maintenance like I do with all of my purchases. :)

I have a 2017 Expedition EL, which is the sister vehicle. Check the fuel trims and oxygen ratio. There are a few things that go bad on these when the miles rack up.

Timing chain stretches due to wear. You can see this in the vct_exh_dif PID using Forscan or Torque.

Manifold warps. May not be an issue if you don't tow. Full Race has a sweet stainless steel upgrade.

Cats give up at high mileage. Make sure the fuel system is clean and you're not burning oil. Fuel trim might tip you off here.

Valve cover seals leak eventually. They're plastic and the rubber seals get dry and lose flexibility.

Transmission and differential fluid are supposed to be good to 150k, but I would not wait that long.

Thanks! I do have a Bluetooth scanner & I use the app that came with the dongle. Soon as I felt that complete stalling out trying to pass I plugged that in shortly after & seen all of the Misfire codes. I kept telling the wife it was a "fuel issue" but found a post online describing the system on these will cut off the fuel injector if there is a Misfire. Bingo! It is a Misfire but it was the fuel cutting out also but now what I thought. 70k out of these Iridium plugs are toast apparently. I'm not sure if Fords new updated part number is any longer lasting or come with a different gap?.

I seen the 150k fluid interval & I didn't plan on going that long with a transmission service. Might as well have them change the filter while there in there. Looks like LV & that's the same as my F-350 transmission. I have no idea what oil they put in there currently but plan on using API SQ & Fords specification for future intervals of 5w-30. I don't seem to have any issue with Manifolds but thanks for the warning & upgrade potential. I did put in an STP "All fuel system cleaner" in the last 1/2 tank to clean it up. I'll do that every oil change.

These engines are hard on plugs. The gaps open quickly. You can regap or change the plugs out. I'm tuned so I run mine at .028. I think OE is like .032.

How is the rust underneath? I know a guy that used to buy a lot of trucks out of Texas and many of them were bought by dealers at auctions from northern states, then resold to people thinking they were getting a rust-free southern truck.

Power running boards?

Enjoy, looks pretty nice from here!

I had asked the dealership to send me pics of underneath. This is what they sent. You are correct on the running boards. I can shut them off but it's a nice feature. Yeah, I tend to check out where the vehicle came from and I'm sure that's how they're buying these from up north for less money & then dumping them locally. I do joke around with the wife about it by saying that's probably why it sat at that dealer & I can imagine those Texans passing on it due to the rust &/or taxi service.

I’d hit it with some fluid film or the like and drive that baby.

I'll get some black spray paint in a can. I'm not looking forward to it since I had to do the same thing to the F-350 which was much worse than this Navigator. Even though I had a painters mask on I was starting to smell coconuts. :ROFLMAO:

Black spray paint will not help stop that rust. Get black WoolWax or Fluid Film. WoolWax is thicker and stays on longer from my experience.
Okay, I don't know anything about those products. Does it dry like paint or is it an oil film? Does anything truly stop rust ?

Post 20 shows a "recall" (2nd item) with billed parts & labor.
WTH kind of recall is that?
Good eye, I had them just do on of the couple recalls. It was simply a rearview camera inspection. Ford says they can have an issue with something or the other I forget. But I was not charged even though it looks like it. I did the math & I didn't pay that portion of the recall cost. There's another one that I'll have done soon & that's a new master cylinder. Apparently they are leaking into the brake booster. There's the one for the side mirror "Puddle Lights" that's supposed to light up a Lincoln logo on the ground from the bottom of the mirrors but I've never seen these work. Fords fix is cutting power to them. Apparently they are a fire hazard.

Its sheep oil. Has (in my opinion) a very pleasant smell. It doesn’t dry much, and that kind of coating absolutely does stop rust. It keeps moisture and oxygen from the rust stopping it in its tracks. Needs to be applied every so often, Fluid Film every year or so, WoolWax seems to last 2 years for me. I just touch it up before winter.

Maybe I can spray paint it, over the rusted spots, & then add woolwax?
