Hunting boot question

So. I am going to WV in November to hunt deer after selling all my hunting stuff years ago when we moved to Fl. I have a great pair of Rocky 1000g boots but was looking for something with less of a profile for those not so cold days. Odd as it may seem and with my odd feet I found some 400g allegedly waterproof boots in 12XW at Walmart. I am trying to find out how they are rated waterproof whether its a membrane of just a leather treatment. See photos and yes I know they are from Walmart but the price was right even though the leather is light and Mink Oil will not change color.

I think it’s says right on tag. Water resistant.

Box says waterproof as in the picture, so does the boot. Question was to what material if any was used. Thanks

For the sake of not arguing. What might the water protection of the boots consist of? My $300 Rocky's which have a Gortex liner also state waterproof, then water resistent. Thanks

I have no idea with boots. Watches are not allowed to say waterproof, because nothing is waterproof. You drop a watch in the Marianas trench and it will leak water eventually. I’m pretty sure I read that Gortex will breathe, while putting polish on leather boots with Gortex will block the breathing.

3M thinsulate fibers themselves are water resistant - that tag is for the thinsulate insulation itself I think. I think the "waterproof" part for that boot is based off the leather, the tongue fiber, and the construction of the leather-to-tongue part. I don't think it'll stay waterproof if the stitching goes bad.

Thinsulate is the insulation inside the tongue. That insulation itself is water resistant. Probably a requirement to put that thinsulate tag on any product containing it - tag not related to the outside materials used.

That brand and the Survivors brand are popular on jobsites, which I would argue is the most harsh enviroment for boots. With that being said, they will work for you no problem. They are inexpensive, and good enough.

If money is a factor, then they will serve you well.

Rocky boots, IMO, are second to none. They have options with 200g and 400g aswell, and in my experience, are absolutely waterproof, at least until you mess them up somehow.
