I couldn't find HTHS of Synthetic Maxlife 10W30, actually HTHS of all Valvoline oil types and grades.

I only find these values of Maxlife Synthetic 10W30: VI 143, Flash Point 231C, Pour Point -39C, Noack 6.3%, Vis at 40C and 100C are typical of 10W30 of 70.5 cSt and 10.9 cSt respectively.

Should I expect HTHS at around 3.3-3.5 for Maxlife synthetic 10W30 ?

I have 2 jugs I bought few months ago for $18.xx/jug at WM. I'm thinking about using this instead of M1 0W40 in E430.

I have heard that the 100C temp and 40C does not necessarily equate to a higher HTHS. I was thinking that it could but not so. It could be as low as 2.9 even with those results. I hope its higher like 3.3 myself

But I am like you in that I do like the Valvoline 10w30 Maxlife for $18.18 at wallly world. A really good deal and its not a sale price.

Looks to me Noack tracks VI closely within weight(0W20 vs 5W20, 5W30 vs 10W30), at least for Valvoline Maxlife Full Synthetic.

Grade VI Noack

0W20 175 11.4%
5W20 154 9.3%
5W30 168 10.2%
10W30 143 6.3%

Since I live in So Cal, low VI doesn't matter much for my cars

The importance info that I'm looking for is HTHS and nowhere to be found.

Pennzoil told me to pound sand when requested PP HTHS. Mobil posts HTHS but would probably tell you to pound sand if you asked for the NOACK. No idea what these guys problems are. It's not like those numbers are proprietary info.

I thought you used 5w20 in the Merc so why worry about HTHSv of the 10w30?

In any case, if you need a HTHSv of 3.3 then all I can say is that I've never seen an API only / major US brand xw30 with a HTHSv above 3.1. In which case use that 10w30 for your S2000 which as you know is what it calls for, and find something else for the Merc.

PU 10w30 had and HTHS of 3.3 Amsoil OE 5w30 and 10w30 both have HTHS of 3.3

You can certainly find a higher HTHS than 3.1 if you look.

M1 5w30 also had an HTHS of 3.2 at one point. But, yes, it's exceedingly rare. If you guessed 3.0 to 3.1 for every ILSAC 30 grade out there, you'd probably be right over 90% of the time.

I'm using a mixed of M1 0W20(60%) and 0W40(40%) in my E430 right now. I tried PP 5W20 in 2007-2008, then Valvoline Synpower 5W20 after that, then mixing xW20 with M1 0W40.

I like to try different viscosity in the to see how the engine behave.

Since I bought 2 jugs Maxlife synthetic 10W30 intended to use in S2000, but I participate in the Pennzoil UOA I received a case of PPPP 10W30, I changed to it in my S2000 last Sunday. I like to use Maxlife in the E430 now.

On second thought, I just use it, because PP 5W20 made the engine very quiet and better MPG too.

Pity you didn't use the PPPP 10w30 in the Merc.

That UOA would probably have been more useful for you. You already know the S2000 runs fine on 10w30.
