Does anyone know what has a higher HT/HS between Amsoil 0w-30 and M1 0w-40? I notice Mobil doesnt post HT/HS data on there website..hmmm. I'm thinking ahead to far, but for next summer I want the higher of the two bc my engine runs hot. I have the 0w-30 wt comparisons, but not the 40. Also, Isn't this for Diesel engines?

AMSOIL CASTROL MOBIL
VI: 188 181 176
HT/HS 3.5 3.1 3.4
WEAR: .39 .47 .45
ASH: N/A .93 N/A

Mobil 1 0W-40 and 15W-50 are both qualified for ACEA A3-02, so their HT/HS is at least 3.5.

Amsoil HDD Series 3000 5W-30 is dual rated for gasoline and diesel engines. It has an API Service Classification SJ and ACEA A3-02, and both are gasoline engine ratings. SJ was the top rating before July, 2001, and A3-02 is the top European rating (and tougher than SJ or SL).

Buster,

The Mobil 1, "trisynthetic" 0w-40 came in @ 3.6 Cp.
It is more difficult to make a shear stable oil in these wide range multigrades like 0w-40 or 5w-50, due to the amount of VI improver needed. A 0w-40 or 5w-50 will also tend to thin out more at high shear rates, since the polymeric thickeners align themselves in the direction of oil flow.

If you were to take a 10w-30 and a 0w-40 that started out with the same HT/HS viscosity, the 10w-30 would tend to hold it's original properties longer in actual service.

Thanks guys. Knowing that, i'll go with a 10w-30 in the summer months.....I wish I lived in a warm climate like Florida, Texas or Arizona....I don't like winter.
