Looks like I'll be picking up a 2020 GMC Terrain with the 2.0L LTG Turbo. 100k miles, unknown maintenance history but runs nice and no obvious sludge or gunk visible through the oil fill hole.

What would be the best HPL oil for this engine? I've never had a turbo engine before so the game is a bit different. Out of warranty so I don't need to stick with a Dexos1 Gen 2.

Euro Passenger Car? Premium Plus? No-VII? I plan on sticking with OEM recommendation of 5W-30 unless I have a really good reason to use something else.

How will you be driving the car? LOL

My wife does A LOT of short tripping. Probably 10k miles per year but lots of short trips daily. If this was a highway ride I probably wouldn't even ask this question.... but the short trips put her under "Severe Service".

With 100k on the clock and an unknown history I'll definitely be putting some HPL EC-30 in there.

Given that use, I'd go for HPL No VII 5W-30 and do the first change and sample at 5k miles or 6 months. Adjust/extend from there.
Thanks man, I wonder if a Euro blend of the No-VII 5W-30 would be worth it. Viscosity and HTHS is a tad higher.

I had a similar vehicle, but with the 1.5T. Has the transmission been serviced? I serviced mine at 100k and the fluid was horrible, I’d highly recommend doing it.

Are you gonna do spill and fill With HPL trans fluid ?
Funny thing. So I bought 3 12-quart cases of HPL's Green ATF fluid about six months ago. Both my 2021 Canyon and wife's ex-Mazda CX-5 are approved for it. She got hit and it was totaled before I swapped the fluid so now I have 24 1-qt bottles.

The 2020 GMC Terrain w/the 2.0L LTG has the 9T50 (I think) and uses Dexron VI, which uses HPL ATF Green....so it is a good candidate.

But I think I will do the first spill and fill with a "Cheaper" ATF to get the ball rolling. Maybe I'll change the transmission filters not too long afterwards. My 15 seconds of looking on RockAuto show that the transmission has a sump filter and a canister filter. No idea about the accessibility of either but might not be a good idea.

Then the HPL will go in.

But....haven't purchased the vehicle yet, but it is what my wife wants so it will happen sooner or later.

Valvoline Dexron VI has been popping up cheap on Amazon lately.

To my knowledge, the 9T transmissions have only an internal filter that is inaccessible.

I would just email Dave at HPL and ask him what he recommends for your vehicle/engine/driving conditions and or any specific concerns you have with the vehicle. For me he recommended the premium plus 0W-30 due to climate. They might not answer if too busy, but worth a shot.

Don't know. Carfax doesn't show maintenence history bit the first thing I do will be to replace everything!
Based on my experience, Carfax also doesn't show nearly totaling out a vehicle.. Had to send back (and eat $800 in shipment costs) are car I bought online that was "clean carfax." But upon arrival it was clear it had been severely damaged and a 20 min only research session showed it had had the front main crossmember and oil pan replaced.

Caveat Emptor.
