How's everyone liking the XenForo look?

All my old posts have lost their formatting. And when I select something in the reply box, it is not highlighted.

I am also seeing reduced activity in at least the Off Topic sub-forum, which is sad because this was a fun forum to visit.

Try a different theme. I know what you mean - with all of the themes except for "Dark", the contrast between the highlighted color and the text box color isn't much.

Looks like ~50 posts with updates since Monday. Is that low ?

Okay, I can confirm the highlight issue is theme related.

I felt the off topic section was more lively before.

As a business solution custom programmer, I have had perhaps thousands of releases over the years.
People hate 'em; a month later they are your biggest supporter.
This is a great upgrade; it was virtually painless! Well done.

I don't know how long the previous theme was used for, but in an another forum I browse (WatchUSeek), we had a similar theme change two weeks ago. And I am not a fan of that either, neither is a lot. We had that specific forum for about 15 years without any change in terms of theme/functionality. There is one benefit from the update and that is faster browsing. But that is all the benefit I can garner from the forum update.

Every change requires some adjustment, for both the admins and the users.

The admins here have taken great care to have the new forum look, and mostly feel like the previous setup, and minimize the impact of the change.

Over time, more adjustments can be made, and things will settle.

Underneath, XF is more powerful, and other forums that use it show that it's also flexible. The Search function is a visible manifestation of what modern software can bring.

As forum changes go, this is more like getting a TJ or W463 G-wagen, as opposed to a new Defender or Bronco.

Based on three months of observation?
I don't know how long the previous theme was used for, but in an another forum I browse (WatchUSeek), we had a similar theme change two weeks ago, probably by the same company that owns this website. I think ultimately, these forum changes are intended to place ads better, at least, that is true for WatchUSeek's update.

This site is privately owned.

You will notice that there is no advertising on the site, other than BITOG sponsors on the very top banner. This site has very limited advertising, and that is a deliberate decision by the owner to make a more pleasant browsing experience for you. Your statement is completely wrong.

You’re bad mouthing something you’ve been part of for only three months.

please knock it off.

When I open the BITOG home page I get an "OPS something is wrong" message or similar. If I then click on FORUMS , the forums open and all is good. Strange.

not strange at all.

Your bookmarks contain “UBB”.

Since UBB is no longer the forum software, Your bookmarks are out of date. You can either create a new bookmark, or just remove the “UBB” portion of the old one.

I apologize. Watchuseek's update was two weeks ago, and I believe this website had its a week ago, and if you check Watchuseek's forum, it is very similar to this one. I did include 'probably' and did not state it as a fact. Same with the advertisements. But I retract both assertions.

Thank you.

The update was done here on Monday.

I stated this another post, but I will repeat it here, it was to bring a better, more usable, more flexible platform to BITOG

It cost the site owner money, and it’s cost Wayne a tremendous amount of time, to implement this change.

And the members get the benefit.

Let me add that a lot of guys my age don’t like change, but I was in favor of this one, because we get improved capability, like search, and improved experience, as the result of Wayne’s effort. Yeah, it probably allows for better advertising, but that’s something that the owner has decided not to do, for personal reasons.

And that is part of the reason I like this site so much better than all the others to which I belong.

I don't know how to do this. Spoon feed me please. Ed

I can’t tell if you’re joking...are you saying that you don’t know how to create a new bookmark?

What device/browser are you using?

The search feature is head and shoulders over the old one. Other than my login information being lost, but later reset (thanks!) I like it so far.

As one who is resistant to change, I'm not super-crazy about the "appearance" but I'm already pretty used to it. Overall, it's a really good improvement. Two features I'm happy with are 1)mouse-over on thread list displays the contents (don't have to click to discover what the subject is on vague titles), and 2) the "like" button, I like to agree with a post without having to actually reply just to "ditto" it.
