Did the old s/w have this ? You can collapse them now though. Click the 'slider' button.
The PM database does appear to have been transferred about a week before the forum s/w change was made. I did lose about a week's worth of PM.
It's not going back to the old s/w so it's best to deal with it....
Its ok/livable.
Like anything we will get used to it, with that said, it doesnt display as well on my Apple Desktop computer. Again, its ok, just not as "refined"

I don't have any issues with it other than losing all my prior messages.
I'm used to back pain...that doesn't make it good.

To be fair, Wayne offered to restore your old profile, and you declined it. If you have changed your mind, send a note to Wayne, and he will fix that.
But it is unfair to criticize the site for something that you declined.
To take your analogy further, It’s like the day after back surgery, sure your pain level is higher than before the surgery, but now you are on a path for no pain...
You can do everything you used to do, often with fewer clicks. We are less than one week into the new software. As time goes on, your “pain” will decline.
I am not a technical guy, but it took me all of about five minutes on this new software to figure out how to do everything; post, send messages, change font, set preferences, upload pictures, follow threads, Unfollow threads, ignore members, add members to my follow list, sign up for email notifications, change the time zone that was displayed. I also learned a host of other moderating functions.
So, again with your analogy, do the physical therapy, stretch out your back a bit by clicking around, and figuring out how it works, and then the pain will go away.
Not to mention it's "user error" to begin with....
I never declined to restore my old profile. My email and username is the same as before.

The smileys are some sort of ANSI (?) standard so should load faster and look the same across platforms. However, I miss the BITOG unique ones.

Anytime any forum anywhere does something to upgrade/ change their look, there is a whole bunch of unending petulant foot stomping complaints.
Deal with it, and stop complaining about everything like its your job, and that everything is about inconveniencing you, personally, as if you are indeed that important to anybody but yourself.

Same thing happened when BITOG updated the existing UBB software (earlier this year, as I recall). It was just an update, like going from MS Word 2016 to Office 365. The endless whining and crying was pathetic because not everything remained exactly like it was before. Heck, some commented things like (I'm paraphrasing) "it was fine the way it was for 10 years, why change it ?".
Meh, I live in New Jersey, I’ve been married 47 years. It’s not the first PITA I’ve had to deal with. It might be the last, but I doubt it
