I was thinking about the add pack or chemistry not a thick vs thin issue.
How similar are ESP 0w-20 and 0w-30?

Both are emissions-friendly. Both have I think same SA limits.
There will be some differences bcs. grade in VI etc.
Compare the approvals, instead.
That's what I've been thinking about using in my Jeep.
Why? It’s a thin 30 grade oil that shears heavily, and carries fewer approvals than either ESP oil. Nothing wrong with it either, and I’ve used it. But it’s far from Mobil’s best oil.
Wouldn't work for Diesel engines but for most people that's a non issue
Nothing in those screenshots makes me think there’s anything special about that oil. What are you seeing?

I fail to see why you think AFE 0w-30 is awesome, it has nowhere near as impressive approvals as ESP 0w-30

Most of those are API. They could have simply listed SP, and it would’ve covered the prior ones as well.
For the Ford approval, I’m not sure how stringent it is. But, I’m not sure I could find a single example of someone being impressed by it.
AFE is a fine oil. But, there’s no way we can tell that it outperforms the ESP variants from that list of “approvals”.
ESP is great, but AFE is thinner and better for nervous me trying a 0W-30 on my lil Jeep. It is the most 5W-30-like 0W-30 I have seen, others are so crazy thick.
Not sure I would call them crazy thick. The Mexican owners manual for my Frontier allows for anything from 0w-20 up to 20w-50 (extra super crazy thick?) as long as the winter rating is correct for your expected ambient temps.
Good ol’ USA OM only recommends 0w-20. This was purely a decision made to appease the EPA.

Do whatever you need to do so you can sleep well at night, and have dreams of the “perfect” oil viscosity. But, don’t incorrectly convince yourself that a change from 3.0 to 3.5 HTHS is “too thick.”
