How much oil does your car consume in 3k?

Perhaps a another relevant question is that to Synthetics oils burn more cleanly that dino stuff.

I read somewhere that when synthetics burn off they turn to ash which is then easily solvated by the detergent/dispersant additive package.

However it said Dino oils turn to coke and sludge when burned off. And this is the cruz of the dino versus synthetic debate...in that synthetics maintain superior engine cleanliness (generally speaking) over thier dino counterparts.

when i first got my b16a honda motor i put 5w-30 mobil 1 SS. it burned approx. 1 quart in 2000 miles. since then i have switched to mobil 1 SS 10w-30 and have consumed little to no oil at all.

2001 mazda miata at 25,000 miles uses no oil between 7500 mile changes. Royal Purple 10w-30
1988 Toyota Cressida at 245,000 uses 2 quarts of 20w-50 GTX each 3000 mile change.
1960 Triumph TR3 uses less than 1 quart between
3000 mile changes on rebuilt engine with 30,000 miles. Same GTX 20W-50.
1979 Choy Lee Sailboat with Westerbeke 30hp 4 cyl British Leyland Diesel uses no oil between 100 hour changes at 2500 hours. Same GTX 20W-50

Well, I've never seen the level drop on my Civic del Sol (130,000 miles) over 4-5,000 miles with Mobil 1 (or dino oil). Presumably there is some drop, but it's not enough to see in 3,000 miles or even 5,000 miles. Nowhere near a quart. Probably not 1/8 of a quart.

I agree that such a high percentage of "no drop" responses is surprising, but there are cars out there that just don't seem to use oil.

In the case of many of those cars, they probably use 100ml of oil in 3k, but that's close enough to being virtually none in my book. That's what happens in 5k with my wife's car, the dipstick level doesn't show any drop at all, even though technically speaking I understand it must've used a little bit of oil. Just not enough to show a drop on the stick.

the oil consumtion on my 94 Saturn SL1 varies(better and better with time). right about now I'm at about 1.5-2qt/3k miles last I checked on 0w40 M1. I have castrol gtx 10w40 in it now.

1998 Volvo S90,63,925 miles, 1qt per 10,000 miles (M1 10W-30)
1995 Volvo 960,145,715 miles, 1qt per 3,000 miles (CS 5W-50)
2003 Audi Allraod, 2,900 miles, 1qt per 2,500 miles (factory 0W-30)

Most of you would go crazy if you had to buy oil for a small airplane. A typical Cessna or Piper will consume a quart of SAE 50 in less than ten hours.

I thought it was theoretically impossible to burn
zero oil. Doesn't oil coat the cylinder wall,
and some oil is bound to find its way into
combustion chamber?

My 98 chevy truck with the 5.7L would use about 1/2 qt of 5W-30 Mobil 1 in 3,000 miles. I will be switching to 10W-30 Mobil 1 after my Auto-RX treatment is done.

My wife's 98 Grand Prix with the 3800 V-6 uses about 1 qt every 3,000 miles of 10W-30 Mobil 1.

I recently "inherited" a 95 Ford Taurus, 3.8L. The car has 120,000 miles, and it uses virtually no oil between 3-4K mile oil changes. Recently, I used AutoRx, and out of curiosity switched to M1 10W-30. Prior to that, the car had regular oil changes, but always at a Jiffy Lube or similar establishment.

How can you vote if you have more than 1 vehicle? I only entered the first vehicle.

'99 Dodge Ram Cummins Diesel - Oil level never changes on the dipstick with 7.5K mile changes using either 5W-40 Delvac 1 or 15W-40 Amsoil MD

'96 Toyota 4-runner - Maybe 1/4 quart after 4-5K miles on 5W-30 M1

'90 Honda - "Aunt Minnie" 1/2 - 1 quart per 3-4K miles or 1 year on 5W-30 M1

I once had an '81 Toyota pickup that went 271,000 miles on M1 without ever adding oil between 7.5K changes. For all I know, it may still be running.

'91 420SEL 8+ qt. capacity 15W-40 4oz. each 5K

'92 SVX 6 qt. 10W-30 -0- each 3K

'87 F250 (460")6 qt. 10W-30 -0- each 2K

'84 Town Car 6 qt. 10W-30 -0- each 3K

'92 ZX-11 3.7 qt. 10W-40 4oz. each 3K

'74 Kawasaki Mach IV H2 750cc Triple

Now THAT'S another story! It all depends on how hard (& how often) you twist the ol' right hand!

My '95 Mustang 5.0 with 70k miles only uses 1/2 qt in 3000 miles, and that is with 5w-30 and cold winter temps.

In the summer with 10W-30 it uses virtually no oil.

4Runner and Camira both use nothing that can be seen on the dipstick.

And that includes 300 mile trips in 35 degree plus summers, so fuel dilution doesn't appear to be an issue.

But I've never used less than a 40 weight.

I use around a 1/4 of a quart of oil per 3K miles, less when I drive it normally. Oil cunsumption may go up to 1/4-1/2 a quart if I play in the mountains or track alot during that period. This is with a 2000 LS1 Firebird running M1 0W30! Car has 35K on it now.
The Kia Rio might use 1/4 of a quart at worst. I drive the little Rio like it's at the track every day. Driveing the Rio like it is at the track would be "normal acceleration" in anything else!

I also use M1 0W30 in it. Both cars go 6-7K between changes.

I had the same problem, since you can only vote once in these polls, just pick one of your vehicles (the lowest consumption one)
