How much ammo do you need?

Hi.
I will be the first to quote Kipling. :)

“A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition”

Had i still been Pistol shooting i would have got one of the fancy Dillon presses. As i only load for rifle i make do with a Rockchucker.

As i said earlier i am limited to how much loaded ammo i can keep, but i have maybe a 1000 of each large and small rifle primers.

I understand completely. I have sadly succumbed by voting to be heard and when that does not work I figure the government is going to do what they want anyway. Losing simple rights is a bummer for sure.

Hi ollie.
I do not want to get political as the site does not allow. I do hope however that the mods will allow me this.

Those rights are not your Government's to either grant or take away.

I get it. Anything that has to do with gun rights can get political. It can't be helped. Law abiding gun owners are getting sick of the regulations and limits. I just go with the flow. I think everyone here will agree that it's the person pulling the trigger and not the firearm or ammo that is creating these crazy gun laws.

It is none of the gov's business how much ammo I own, or how I decide to protect my family.

The only time when you might have too much ammo is when you move to a new place! Been trying to make more range trips.

It depends on your state and local laws. WA state is very lenient with the exception of the normal high cap mag restriction (10 rounds max), assault weapon ban, and background check for ammo purchases. In CA there used to be a go around for ammo purchasing without the background check by getting it at gun shows. Every once in a while you can still find a vender who will sell you a high capacity mag. It's getting harder to do.

I cannot imagine local or federal government checking households for ammo quantity unless a crime was committed. How you protect your family is a whole other subject.......

I take it you have never read 1984, studied the rise of Lenin, Hitler, Mao or paid much attention to many of the "pandemic" EO's? (see something-say something)

Need for practice? There's no specific correct number, limited only by availability and practicality. I've slowed down my range visits to every 4-6 weeks and limited my shooting to 100-150 rounds. I have 1500+rounds of good, inexpensive (at the time) S&B and wished I had more but I'm not really worried about it yet.

Need for home defense? 20 rounds of hollowpoints in a mag ready to go but I'm not really worried about that either.

WA doesn't have a magazine capacity restriction, nor an assault weapon ban or a background check to buy ammo ... yet. WA did however pass laws that make any semi-auto rifle (even a .22LR Marlin 60 or Ruger 10/22) an "assault rifle" which now means you have to be 21+ (and maybe also take classes) to buy one.

It's almost as if these states change the rules daily. As of now SB 5062 and HB 1068 are just making it to committee (on the governor's desk). I have a hard time keeping up. CA is pretty strict but they too have loosened the max capacity rule.

In CA I'm always checking our laws. What is legal one day can be a crime the next.

I actually read 1984 in jr. high and did a book report for history. Trying to sift the fiction from truth was near impossible. Orwell's wild socialist views were very difficult for me to write about as a young 13 year old adolescent. I remember getting a A on that report.

My grandfather had to help me with it as he was German. Basically we had to both read the book and dig deep to find the facts that could be used for my history class. As I grew older my grandfathers comment on Orwell's radicalism and him being a bedlamite came to life. IMHO Orwell was a nutcase. OTOH there are many that take his views to heart and believe his views as fact.

All that to say what exactly in relation to the question?

That I did indeed read the book and fully understand its meaning and do pay attention. Nothing more to be said.....

George Orwell is a great author.

However, as a moderator, I feel compelled to point out that a discussion on either Animal Farm or 1984 will inevitably cross the line into politics, so let’s please leave that line of discussion alone.

Thank you.
