HOW MANY OF YOU DRAIN SYNTHETIC ON SHORT OCI'S?

I am guilty of doing this. I usually change at 4K miles on either synthetic or dino. But I did go 13K miles once on Amsoils 0W30. I plan on getting a UOA on the valvoline synthetic I have in there now after 3 or 4K miles just to see whats going on.

On my Civic, I've gone anywhere from 5,000 - 8,000 miles on oil (Mobil 1).

On my supercharged SHO, I still change it at 3,000 or less (Redline or AMSOIL). I get synthetic for this motor because it makes heat and LOTS of power, not for trying to extend OCI's.

in your case an oil sample can go a long way in determining how long your oil will last in your SHO or civic.
alot better than just guessing and changing out good clean oil.

I honestly think it is easier for me to just change the oil in the Civic when I know it's still good than having to send off a sample and wait for results.

As far as the SHO, OCI's are determined by how many times I've run to redline (I don't literally count...).

But you only need to do the analysis once.

I try to stick with 3,000 mile OCI's. Max I'll go is 5,000.

Why? Turbo car (Mazdaspeed 3). Texas heat. Office is only 5 miles away. When I'm not just putting back and forth between home and the office, I drive it like it was meant to be driven, so oil changes are cheap insurance to keep the engine in good shape. There are better places, IMHO, to pinch pennies.

My Mazdaspeed 6 sees the exact same duty as maczter's car. Oil is cheap insurance for that turbo. 3000 mi oci here. I only put 600-700 miles per month on the car so by the time I've run 6 months worth of short trips it's out with the old, in with the new.

Me,3000 mile intervals on synth as well. My car is my DD,and I`m another one of us who drives very short trips to work every day.
