How many folks still use cash?

I like to keep some onhand, mostly smaller bills and do so primarily to give a few $ to panhandlers if I feel they need it more than I do. I get by OK with monthly expenses and I clearly see many in my area likely not doing so well, so $5 for someone might help.

I use my credit card for everything so I get my airline points and pay it off as soon as it get posted....I only keep usually under 40.00 buck in my wallet..

Only somewhat because:

1. Plasma center. Loads it onto a "Visa debit card" similar to a Rush card (now defunct, I believe.) I'm not a fan of fees so.. Cash back, $20 increments at Walmart, no fees for that transaction. I really need to stop giving Plasma but that's a money vs time issue. Still extra money.. so, in that instance, I usually withdraw in $40 or $60 intervals. It's got pros and cons..

2. I am a tipped employee, so.. if we are back to being busy/I park a lot of cars, I'll be back to $50+ a day cash tips on really good days. 💸

Aside from that, I take the cash I get, deposit it into a deposit-taking ATM and either use credit or use my debit card as credit when available after direct deposit.

Even on road trips, I see a lot of the same price cash or credit, so...

Credit card for me, I hate change and loose them. Pay the monthly statement balance.. no interest and the good thing is the cash back on some CCards.

Personally, I still do. Hearing lot lately about debit cards being hacked. I can go to my financial institution and talk to human and get cash. No issues.
My wife and I have gone cashless some time ago even before that I stopped going to banks, heck I never even saw any of my online bank’s buildings or know where any are.
I do maintain a local bank one that I never closed to have around “just because”.
I used to withdraw cash at ATMs but rarely even go to one anymore.

It’s just common sense for us, why use cash?
Our money collects 4.5% interest sitting in the bank and everything item in our lives that we buy on credit cards the cards pay us back 2 to 5% cash back on everything item we buy.

Furthermore the cards don’t get paid until the end of the month so that cash is in the bank still collecting interest.

I don’t see any need to use debit cards, makes no sense to us what so ever. With credit cards you’re not responsible for anything on your card that you didn’t buy. Simple process and to repeat they pay us 2 to 5% cash back on everything we buy.

Heck most times we don’t even use the physical credit card, we pay with our Apple Watches or phone.

For the folks like me who use some cash; how do you take money out? My bank has went to no humans I see.

I believe I’ve had the same $53.00 dollars in my wallet for the past 3 months. I use my CC for my day to day stuff for the cash back.

I carry a fair bit of cash compared to most here it sounds. Most gets handed to one of my kids. The Chinese restaurant down the road still gives a cash discount :)

I don't have a debit card - never have. I have an ATM card. It only works at the ATM. Every time it needs updating they try to give me a debit card and I refuse. Easier to hack IMHO. I do have 2 visa cards. If they get hacked I still have my money in the bank.

I do have $100 in cash stashed in car in case.

My grandfather gave that advice and came in handy when I had an auto issue with no wallet or card on me. A phone seems to get you far now.

I use cash sometimes. Mostly when my kids need money for school events or going out with friend or something like that. I prefer credit card. Pay it off every month and rack up the points for Christmas shopping. If it gets hacked then we deal with. Dispute the charge, get a new cards, update any auto draft info and move on about life.

Apple Pay for about 95% of my transactions. I keep some bills on hand for tips.
I think my wife and I are at about 99.9 % of transactions if not even more into the fractions. We see no reason to pay extra for using cash, just doesnt make sense. True, when I do have cash on me it's for the sole purpose of tips, just that lately I never have cash, except recent move to new home. made sure to have some for tipping.

What is cash? Never use it anymore unless absolutely necessary. Venmo handles a lot of it.

almost never use cash anymore. I for example, just paid my doctor bill online, this morning for a visit I had last month.

I use my debit card pretty much for gas purchases . Credit cards for big purchases only. Everything else is cash. If I go to the coffee shop it seems silly to pay for a $3.00 coffee with any card. Credit card companies make it easy for your to spend YOUR money, and money YOU don't have. I look at the cash money I spend, when I spend it. I don't even glance at my debit or credit card when I use it. It's like it's I'm getting stuff for free when I use a card. I believe most people do the same, and say I'l pay it off at the end of the month. That helps people spend more on things they normally wouldn't or couldn't buy, if they didn't have cash. Financial folks say more that 50% of people don't have enough cash to get by for 3 months, if they find themselves out of work. Then it's your credit card to the rescue. All it takes to ruin your credit is to loose your job, and not be able to pay your credit card bill for a few month's. Here's a fun quiz. Take a guess what your credit card interest rate is, then go look it up. All that cash back stuff will seem meaningless ,if you get to a point when your debt gets out of control, and they turn off your card. Never forget, Credit card companies make their money off of people that live off their credit cards. Banks make money from using your money. Using your money so you don't pay interest or fees for a transaction, priceless.,,,

I went cashless in 2019. I've had to go to an ATM before visiting my local butcher and I found that practice to be cumbersome. What am I going to do with this change?

Why? My card gives 2% cash back so I use it for nearly every purchase.

If that is the case, those folks shouldn't be buying $3.00 coffees.
