Are honda engines as good as their reputation or are they as hard on oil as every other engine? I mean, what makes them special enough to go 10,000 on an oil change?
If you were to go 10,000 miles on an oci without a uoa what oil would you use?

valvoline synpower, M1, pennzoil platinum.

I think 7500 is doable with dino *if* you do a lot of higway miles and with a uoa, but over that I would definitely go synthetic

Honda builds excellent engines. The Honda 2.4L engine, which is what I have, is very easy on oil and very reliable. No special oils are needed with Hondas, which some other automakers can't claim.

I've been doing 10,000 mile drains on average, and using any good synthetic, which is more than sufficient.

They are not going backwards in this respect.

The big 3 have built a precise engine?

OCI on some Honda models sold here is max 45,000 kms/2 years (~28,000 miles).
More or less equal to OCI on some models from MB or VW/Audi.

wife's 2 HMC rigs thrive on conv. mineral oil with 5k mile changes since her commute is only 2 miles. Mobil 1 was a waste in them because of short distance cold commute and slight fuel dilution and it gave no better wear UOA results.

use Havoline or Chevron Supreme 5w20 in both with Purolator filters

UOAs are important on HMCs to track fuel dilution and any injector issues.

no 10k mile OCIs for my rigs without trend UOAs first.

as China comes on the auto production market, look for Honda to cheapen their product to try and compete.

Of course not. I don't know a single mfg. that is selling cars with dino in the engine here. I'm talking about new cars that is sold in Europe.

The GM 3.8L and Chrysler 3.3/3.8L engines come to mind. Both are timing chain motors easily capable of going 200,000+ miles and are quite easy on oil. I know guys who do 12,000 mile OCIs on the Chrysler 3.8L.

posty,

My guess is that any engine oil can go 10K before an OCI. The important item is an oil filter tht can go that far. If I went that route then I'd use Mobil 1.

Durango

Even my old '91 Audi (3B 5 cyl. turbo engine) could do 10,000 miles OCI at normal service and 5,000 miles severe service.
That was with VW500.00 approved (mineral) oil.

It is still running and has passed 200,000 miles..

I use Purolator filter and change it at 4k and 7k for my 7k oci with M1 5W20. Sure I can get a Mobil 1 or K&N filter that claim and may actually go 10k oci but I don't like having a same filter in the car too long. Filter is very easy to take out and replace so I change them often as the benefits of synthetics won't be realized if the filter is clogged.

I'm not sure what your talking about, but that 3.3 in my Dad's Caravan is probably the worst motor we have ever had in the family. Destroys oil. Non-stop problems and sounds. What a bad experience. I doubt we would ever go near another Chrysler product to be honest. If we ever buy domestic again it will likely be Ford.
