Greetings All-
can anyone recommend new aftermarket Honda power steering pump brands? Honda EX-L 3.5 V-6

Is it just leaking or has it failed mechanically? I replaced the seals using a seal kit from Honda and it's still working fine with no leaks.

If you really want a rebuilt one then I've bought Maval units in the past and they seem decent.

3 years ago I replaced the p/s pump on wifey's 2006 TSX 4 banger. I got a cheap new pump off Amazon, MOTOOS or something like that. I planned on getting the original part rebuilt, as there is a good rebuilder in nearby San Jose. I even found one that was returned so it was even cheaper.

That $60 pump is still going strong.
Just my experience.

Thank you-
About 95K miles on it. No leaks and steers fine, etc. Issue is a loud groan/low hum on first starting car and placing in gear. In park -no noise. Disappears after warmed up. Put stethoscope on it and very loud and noticeable only when cold and in gear. Everywhere else normal noise. So....must be the pump.
Don't understand why it only exhibits this noise when in gear and cold, otherwise its quiet.

CHECK the "O" ring on the return line at the pump. It will cost a buck or two and can be replaced in under 5 minutes. Check YouTube, it may save you some $$$$. It most likely is that "O" ring which allows air in which makes lots of noise upon starting. It gets worse as temps drop.

Depends on load. It is probably dependent on rpm.

Thats an idea...thanks

Yep. This is the culprit on noisy Honda PS pumps 90% of the time.

Check the resevoir for bubbles with the engine running before condemning the "O" ring; easy.
Thanks all-
checked for leaky seal- it was fine. Wiggled suction side hose- no change. Checked for foam in fluid reservoir-none. Placed hand on hi pressure manifold on pump when in neutral- no vibration. Placed hand on it when in gear- a lot of vibration and noise. Cannot see the connection between groan/droning only when placed in gear when engine cold. Kept rpms same throughout testing. Help!

Just curious, did you take the serpentine belt off to listen to the other pulleys indivdually?
Being Christmas, I'm doing that next. Will remove and spin pump by hand to check bearing. Did listen with a stethoscope to all other pulleys. This car is super well maintained and this really caught me by surprise, esp it being a Honda with "only" 95k on it. LOL

Solved. Sprayed water on belt. Groan/drone disappeared. Should have done this first but Bando belt and Honda OE tensioner assembly have only 20k on them and I assumed they were ok. Guess Hondas like oe belts only, but Bando is a very well-respected belt manufacturer and is OE(?). Maybe will try Mitsuboshi

Something's not adding up here. Is the belt the correct length?
I assume that it is because it is listed, and sold as, for this car. It has been reported that ppl have found slight differences between various brands of belts in length and width for a given car. So... who knows? Maybe tolerances added up in the wrong direction. I am ordering a Mitsuboshi belt for this car because that is what it came with when new. Cheap solution.

The "fabric" liner on the factory Bando belts can sometimes make a difference, IME. The factory ones also seem to stretch less - as evident by where the arrow often points on the tensioner.
