Honda Odyssey brake caliper slide boots

Thanks for this. I like Royalty Auto vids and bought their recommended lug brush socket with the pumice-like stuff on the end of it for the hubs when I watched it a while back. I totally forgot about this vid, but remember it now! Good to know about the pin not needing the cap, but I bought new stuff and used silicone grease regardless. I would rather not have to deal with that again bc that was a real b*tch to get out of the caliper bracket! I am optimistic using compatible grease will do the trick this time...hopefully, but time will tell.
The rubber caps should be fine for at least a few years. The Honda guys say they are used to reduce noise in the brakes. I don't know if they serve any other purpose but they definitely are not necessary.

The caps on my Odyssey swelled after about 8 years. I'm not sure why, as the van never got anything but Sil Glyde prior to that.

I started using Super Lube brake lube a few years ago and so far no swelling, but it's too soon to know whether they will swell at the 8 year mark. If they do, the caps go to the trash and they won't be replaced!

8 years for rubber exposed to some of the hottest and dirtiest environment on the car picking up diesel, gas, ATF, gear, engine oil from the road is pretty good.

While not absolutely necessary, the rubber cap on Honda slide pins are allegedly installed to dampen brake vibration under certain situations. See the Post #9 discussion in the previous BITOG thread.
