While changing the spark plugs on my grandmaws '08 2.4 Accord, I decided to check the coolant. It was low in both the radiator and the overflow, it has never ran hot. She had it changed at the dealer two years ago. Do I need to buy genuine Honda coolant or can I use the Zerex Asian vehicle coolant sold at Napa? Also I noticed on the passenger end of the fuel rail two rubber hoses, one goes to the bottom of the intake manifold and I couldnt tell what it was connected to, the other one was just hanging near the alternator not connected to anything, is this just a bleedoff hose for the fuel pressure regulator or should it be connected to something? Car runs fine.

When I changed the plugs, I noticed two of the ignition coil bolts were hard to take out and put back in, the threads on the bottom of the bolts were rounded off, I replaced them with two from the hardware store till I can go to the Honda dealer. The other two went in fine when torqued to 106 in lbs. Plugs and coils were never touched before, could it be possible the bolts were messed up from the factory?

Genuine Honda coolant isnt that expensive, why not run the correct stuff?

Some people poo-poo the GM licensing strategy, but at the end of the day, I can buy any licensed Dex Cool and know Im getting interchangeable and acceptable products.

Similar concept with the MB sheet, VW, etc. products.

Honda stuff does not seem to fit the same mold.

But none of it is THAT excessively priced. So Id just run the real stuff, especially for antifreeze and PSF, likely for brake fluid as well.

Oil is another story. Filters open a can of worms.

My 2c.

Me personally, I would use Honda Type 2.

If not, then I would completely drain old coolant, then use distilled water for flushing and use Zerex Asian.

It would be good for a couple of years

Add another vote to the Honda coolant fan club.

My neighbor's 2010 Accord 4 cyl. has an interesting "spec".

I drain the radiator and exactly one gallon drains out. I refill with a gallon of Honda Type-II.

It works so easily I don't see why to do it any other way except if the system needed complete emptying, flush out and refilling, WHICH IT DOESN'T.

Peace

Need to? Not imo. Honda Type2 is an Asian Phoat AF. ZAF is an Asian Phoat AF and now comes in blue tint to match Honda OEM tint. If one can get ZAF at significant cost savings from Type 2 from the dealer, no reason not to use it. As linked above, WM has the same as ZAF AF called Valvoline with Zerex technology, some stores now selling the blue tint too to match type2. ~$12/gal very reasonable.

Genuine Honda coolant is the way I would go.

Don't know about the hoses or the bolts.

I have OEM Honda in my Accord's and Pentosin A3 Blue in my Acura. All are running just fine. Pentosin will probably go in the others when they are opened for timing belts.
