My race partner works for Honda and says he has had great luck over the years with SuperTech oil. Walmart house brand. Said it was made by Mobil. Who know for sure??/ lol
Anyway today I dumped the factory high Moly fill and replaced it with 4 qts of 5W-20 SuperTech oil and a new Honda filter.
It's $1.70/qt
Did a search and came up with zero hits on the SuperTech 5W-20 oil on BITOG.
This is a Honda Fit MT with 1500cc engine and I'm geting 42.6mpg avg so far.

I sent the factor fill off to Blackstone for testing and will plan to run this SuperTech for 5k than dump and test.

Historically I have had great luck with non synthetic oils and from testing going to a TBN between 1 and 2.
Unless a synthetic has proven eco gains (better mpg) I'll run this car the same way. It's no big deal for me to change the oil.

Question:
What's an off the shelf oil that seems to work and test well if SuperTech is considered junk? If SuperTech is good let me know.

This Honda has a in dash Oil Life indicator with an undisclosed algorithm that determines life. The oil I dumped today had 40% remaining life showing. Honda says go to 15%. Has this been discussed on here with anything intelligent offered? My thought is that gage is for the normal clueless owners and I'll pick and oil and determine my change interval from testing as I did on my last two cars.

SuperTech isn't junk, you should be fine. I personally wouldn't pay $1.70 for a quart of conventional anymore, I can easily find oil on sale for $1/quart or less, but if you don't have any of the stores nearby that have anything on sale, that's a pretty good price I'd say. Mobil Clean 5000 is $8.97 for 5 quarts at Wal-Mart as well, and might have a better additive package and/or base stocks.

Supertech seems to be made by a couple of different people, maybe depending on what part of the country. It is walmart spec, not mobil.
I have comments about it in my report.

click search, type supertech 5w20 loads of stuff comes up if you change the time frame to 1 year or 5 years.

What report? I looked at you corvair oil report and searched on SuperTech and did not see anything?? Can you let me know what report? Thanks in advance

BTW The Honda recommended 5W-20 Oil really limited my selection. Lots of 5W-30's but few like Honda designed the eng for.

PSS Honda geared this Subcompact like a motor cycle.

at 65mph in OD (5th gear) I'm over 3krpms.

You can just here that little 1.5l eng spin like a top. The balance is not great and you can also feel the vibes.
That said, I can't [censored] at the design as with careful driving my avg from tank one is 42.6mpg US to date but worry about how long the eng will run as I keep my cars for 10 years or 250k miles

I have friends who run SuperTech Syn, no problems.

I agree that you can buy oil cheaper than what you paid if you look for sales or rebates.

The Fit's maintenance minder seems to do an accurate job, it's not just for the clueless. Your report will show that.

ditto in our rabbit. Though very smooth and no vibrations, noise, etc., it has more than enough torque that they could have made 5th a lazy gear to improve economy.

IMO, the rabbit and fit are designed similarly, more as city runabouts that have some pep, rather than highway cars.

If I had an economy champ like that, Id be putting M1 0w-20 in it to eek out every last bit of economy that I could.

I wouldn't trust dino Super-tech
maybe synthetic super-tech.

Amsoil 0-20 would be a good oil
Get back to us with the UOA

Why? Got pictures of blown engines maybe? Anything low-dollar just can't be any good, right?

I would have went with Mobil 5000 because *I KNOW* it is made by Mobil. The key to your ST choice is the question of whether it is indeed made by Mobil. I have never heard of this and I bet you didn't check this site before believing that ST is made by Mobil was true.

I like to use as close to factory oil as possible while I am breaking in my car because I think the break-in of a car and oil choice is of PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE when it comes to performance and fuel efficiency. Honda's FF is close to Mobil 5000.

Mobil 5000 is and as someone stated, it has a better add pack. I used it and perhaps I am biased but one thing that is fact is that Honda's FF is a close cousin of Mobil 5000 as well as Exxon Superflo.

I used Mobil 5000 and then Mobil 7500 until my mileage reached 21,500 miles on the ODO on my 2006 Honda V6 244 hp which is now getting 26 mpg. ST is not a bad choice but there are better. The proof is in the pudding though. How did the car run after you put the ST oil in and did it run appreciably better from a vague seat of the pants view.

I would lose the Honda filter and try FRAM Extended guard which says it is 'guaranteed' for 7500 miles. (basically it means more pleats for better filtration if the car runs hard, high heat or extreme severe service for regular ~5k OCIs).

I do like the Fit a LOT but the looming redesigned 2009 Fit MT is in my cross-hairs as well as 2009 Sonata MT since fuel economy is so important and I have a V6 AT now.

Don't worry too much re the Rpms. The higher revs are less stress than lower revs at 65.

Pages 12 and 13. I'd paste it here, but it includes clips from there msds and analysis.
Remember that being made by Mobil does not mean it is Mobil spec. ExxonMobil also makes CC/SC oils. That doesn't make them good.

st is a good oil...or go with mobil clean 5000...i wouldnt go 10 k on oil like honda reccomends, maybe 7500

supertech is fine for that honda any off the shelf dino oil will do fine only one honda vehicle requires a specific oil and thats the rdx. The short gearing is just a honda thing, your lucky at 65mph in 6th gear my rsx is spinning at 3700 rpm.You have nothing to fear that motor will last well past 250k if you take care of it

I had a 2000 Civic that I bought brand new. That stinkin' thing buzzed, and vibrated like a sewing machine. Royal Purple once (MAYBE STILL DOES) advertised that their oil reduced vibration due to micro polishing. I tried it. I found the engine to be much smoother, and I no longer felt the vibration in the steering wheel. I think the effect is permanent, and after one change you can run whatever you want to. Also, the 5 spd was balky, and tough to get into reverse. I changed the tranny fluid with Red Line (MT-1 I think). Wow, It's a nice transmission, but not with the factory fill. Good luck!

Why? It's SM rated. You can (generally 99.9%) take ANY SM rated oil to 5000 miles. Done.

I'm running this in an 07 Optima. I think the 5w20 (if WPP) is really a semi-syn, at least that's what the Warren site indicates (semi-syn 5w20 but no dino 5w20). Wal-Mart is probably marketing it with their dinos because it keeps things simpler for them.

I'm not pushing it much past 3K because of the HyunKia power train warranty. I'm sure it could do at least five.
