I was thinking about a Glock for home protection.
The shotgun in a home is a little long. The recoil also is something to deal with. A pump shotgun is a excellent defense weapon but not the best to go "clearing" a house with. (let me add also a pistol grip shotgun fired from the hip is one of the most un accurate weapon around. I only have regular stocks on a shotgun.)
I have both in my bed room. My Rem 870 is loaded with #4 shot (OO goes through a wall real easy).
I had quite a few Glocks but they are all gone. I really like the S&W M&P series. My bed side gun is a Ruger P345 with a LED light on the front. Easy to shoot and my wife likes it quite well. Keeps one hand free.
Our plan for anything inside the home is grab the cell phone and call 911, grab the kids place them with us in a safe room and wait. If the bad guy(s) come in the room, not good for them.
I built this house so it has a long hall before you get to the bed rooms at the end. At the end of the long hall is 18 steps. So a LONG way before you get near us. The dog is very good at anyone around the home.
If you decide on a shot gun, make sure you get your wife to shoot it. You do have to aim esp in a home. My wife will shoot it but would rather use a handgun or AR15 for defense.
Another thing, the Glock is imported and there is a VERY good change in about 2 months, there will be a order to stop all imported weapons. Keep that in mind as stock will be depleted since gun sales are at a all time high.
Take care, Bill
PS: one of my favorite subjects. I really enjoy reloading, shooting and just being out.
