$1000??!? IIRC we have $2000 or $2500. Insurance shouldnt be inoked for minor stuff, and $2000 worth of work is minor. Using it drives premiums up too.

Our insurance prices are getting nickel and dimed to death.

Health Insurance up 7% this year again, and they are offering gym rebates and massages, and I know people who use every single ancillary every single year.

For a small increase in premiums, washing machine motors drive up everyone elses home insurance, while windscreen damage does same with cars.

Tort reform did nothing to personal injury, so I doubt that the idea of eliminating "extras" would drop the prices for everything else.

Since I have been extremely happy with our company, I stay put.

Would me seeing those prices and giving you the finger violate the TOS on this site? Because That's a bit less than HALF what I pay.

I'd be fingered, but you would be the one getting screwed. Seriously, there are very few benefits to living in Ohio. Competition in the insurance market is one of them.

If I remember correctly, you guys may not be too far behind us in rate hikes.

And the price you had for your cars is what I had for 3 just a few years ago...

Okay, here I go. I'm getting insurance quotes for our new house in the coming month. Things are looking good, and the prices out there are actually pretty good. Then, I look to the auto insurance part. Bam! the bottom falls out. I got quotes that were 400-1000 more than I pay now...HUH? Now, I know michigan sucks when it comes to auto insurance, but I thinking I missed something somewhere...

My plan is pretty simple...basic full coverage policy with my Cobalt and wife's cavalier, with simple plpd for my other Cavalier, which sees limited driving throughout the year. Besides buying a house (in which I'm sure my credit took a slight dip), nothing has changed. This just blow my mind. I realize prices have gone up, but this is just silly. The city that I'm moving to does increase my rates, but only slightly. But not a major jump.....

I'm still calling my insurance places for quotes, but for the love of pete, I hope the auto end of the plan is not going to be like the current ones. Also makes me fear for the rates of newer cars at this point....

Thank you for listening to my vent...it's been a rough day...

Given the fact that about 1 in 5 motorists drive with no insurance in Michigan, I'm not surprised that rates are skyrocketing.

http://wainsurance.blogspot.com/2010/02/percentage-of-uninsured-motorists-by.html

How much is your Cobalt worth? When you factor in deductibles and such, there's a breaking point at which full coverage (at least comprehensive and collision) are no longer needed financially (unless you have a loan of course). Uninsured motorist (medical and property) I think are always needed.

With used car prices high on small cars, that is the only reason I would keep full coverage on those two. even with a higher deductible, right now I couldn't see why I would not get at least 3 grand if they were totaled. Not much, but enough to add to my down payment..

Rumor is here in MI they are trying to have only full coverage insurance available. And make it a 1000.00+ fine if you don't have insurance...

It's the same thing with other types of insurance too. For some reason, a lot of people prefer shelling out $1,500/month in order to insure against a $20 prescription or $80 doctor's visit.

Deductibles & premiums don't scale proportionately and a consumer is virtually always better off with a higher deductible, unless a 3rd party is subsidizing the premiums.

Heard a piece on the radio this AM on my way to work that stated that Ohio is 10th cheapest in car insurance premiums and 6th in home premiums of the 50 states. Therefore, there will probably be rate adjustments in the offing.

Interesting....Farm Bureau recently "dropped" me because I didn't have auto with them. So off to shopping I go. Best deal, State Farm, now I insured my house with them also and got the package deal discount, but for all 3 cars below, full coverage with 100/300/100 and no comp. deductible (hail is a big problem here) was 1290 for the year. House, standard 1.5 stories/two car garage/slab/composite roof with 750 deductible for FULL COVEAGE and replacement/central HVAC/1800 sq. ft/and earthquake) was about 1500 annually. Resonable I thought. I was with USAA on the cars, but they have really jacked up their rates recently and I'd been with them for 15 years. Saved 400 bucks a year on the cars compared to USAA.

You can always lower your premiums by minimizing coverage. But then, what's the point of having insurance?

The best deal will probably be to get all of your personal insurance from one carrier - home, cars, whatever else you have.

I pay ~ $2400/annum for the cars below, $1K deductible, new car replacement on the three Pontiacs (not sure how they'll manage that); another ~ $2400 for two homes; and about ~ $240 for the umbrella.

Small cheap cars cost more to insure than big expenive cars, because the little cars cost insurance companies more in an accident. Fact of life that small car lovers don't like, but that's what it is.

Insurance is expensive, unfortunately. It's like all other things in this country - the responsible pay through the nose for the irresponsible.

Even with commercial insurance, the policies are generally discounted to reflect multiple policies being issued.

Now that wife and I are over 50 and no kids on our policy our auto is pretty reasonable. about 1100 yearly for full coverage with 100 deductible comp and 500 collision for our Malibu and escape.
Where I realy saved is going to a 2500 deductible on our homeowners, went from 950 a year to about 350.

WOW. Oklahoma is number 2???? Wonder why? I mean, if you throw in the tornado/hail state comparison, then Texas, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri should be right up there with us, but they are not. Don't get that at all.

It's very easy to charge higher prices for something when the government mandates that you must have it.
