I agree with whoever deemed him a monster; he should have stayed in Aruba where he had the system corrupted in his favor.

Even if he gets turned over to Peru promptly, he could and likely will, languish in a Peruvian stinkhole slammer for years before he gets a "trial", unless they want to make a quick example of him.

Peru has no death penalty, afaik.

Too bad.
 
Someone in that Chilean jail needs to 'accidentally' provide 'ol Joran a piece of rope long enough to hand himself with, and see if he's bright enough to figure it out...

Problem solved.
 
I just read that the latest girl's neck was broken. Yup, I do not see where anyone here is piling on him. He'll get his day in a foreign court and the world will be watching. I am so glad that they got him!!! Lookd like the tables have been turned as the poor victim's father seems to have plenty of contacts to insure that this one does not fade away.

If he spends the rest of his life in a Peruvian jail, that might be better justice than the death penalty.
 
The girl's father is both wealthy and well connected in Peru. By the time this is all over, this sociopath will beg for merciful death to take him.

Oh, I understand your point all too well. But don't forget, the presumption of innocence is an advanced, common law construct -- it's anything but universally accepted. We're lucky here. I'll readily admit that I don't know how the Peruvians do it.

That would be the easy out. There's most likely a hot corner "down in the basement" waiting for Joran. He'll get there soon enough.
 
I thought I was innocent till proven guilty. Turns out it was guilty till you pay your attorney the big $$$$$$ to make sure they know you are not guilty.
I think that it just depends on a lot of things whether they go by the guilty till proven innocent mantra.

Like ekpolk's case it really depends...... I had an excellent attorney and he was expensive, thanks to my parents $$$$$ helping out he forced them to see all the facts in the case.
I suspect the this kid and his attorney will have a hard time trying to show he is innocent. I'm glad they got him, because a serial killer is what he is trying to become.

Excellent point! I did some research and here is a little info about the legal system in various countries.

I've spent quite a bit of time in Mexico over the past 14 years. In Mexico, one is deemed guilty until proven innocent. Let's hope that Peruvian law is similar.

From what I can find in various sources on the web, the Peruvians now have presumption of innocence except in practice they really don't. Sound like reality there is still strongly influenced by the Napoleanic code. Nothing I found was definitive, so no links.
