Dude you got your feelings hurt because someone had a different viewpoint than you.

I accept the fact that we non-hoa losers are beneath you, but you don’t see me screaming and hollering that “I’m offended”🤣.

I sincerely hope one day a working class guy who lives in a non-uoa blue collar neighborhood, driving by in his 20 year old beat up work truck, doesn’t have your back if you’re ever broken down or in trouble on the side of the road. God forbid!

I make a distinction when discussing HOA’s for apartments and condo type settings vs HOA’s for individual home (house) owners who live on a separate lot distinct and not shared with another home owner.

I get the HOA need for the condos and apartment since rules of decorum between neighbors often needs (isn’t that really a shame) to be spelled out. But most home (house) owners don’t (I think) want every nuance of how they live managed by some outside board.

So a HOA that maintains public spaces I get but getting too much involved in day to day life such as car colors allowable and I know of one that specifies allowable interior window treatments well, that is a bit much.

But you have a choice whether to buy in to such an arrangement. Buyers need to realize that the retiree’s and DINK’s aren’t going to like anything done by the Dad+Mom, with two and a half kids plus a doggie crowd.

What one is willing to freely accommodate in life will change as one’s situation changes. Kind of like cruise lines that cater to an older crowd and don’t allow kids vs a Disney cruise vs a “club med“ vacation for the young set.

I know of an HOA where one of the owners replaced their wood garage door with a metal one.

They almost got into a fistfight about it at the HOA meeting.

I lived in a townhouse with an HOA. The ONLY things the HOA maintained were common grounds and the roads/parking lots. I had to mow my own lawn and maintain my own townhouse exterior (roof/gutters/wood trim/etc). For that they charged $40/month, which is probably about fair given what they actually did.

The houses in my subdivision are on their own HOA. I think it's like $10/month and you have to do all the work but that goes towards road/playground/pond maintenance.

HOA's are both good and bad, period. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing older women tend to get upset at silly crap and report the violator to the HOA president.

I myself wouldn't be a happy camper if this was my neighbor, Mr Ham radio:

A retired HOA Karen in my brother’s fancy neighborhood discovered a homeowner was running a hydroponics lab and reported the guy to the police.

She drives around in her golf car daily.

You're directing your improvised theatrics at a retired working guy who happens to live in an HOA because it's the only decent choice in this area for newer affordable homes. You aren't going to admit your earlier incorrect HOA characterization let's drop it. You win.

Heck, honestly we both win👍 I’ll admit I was being a bit silly. You seem like a great guy Jeff. We all sometimes bicker here as if we’re real life siblings:)

We actually looked at a house in an hoa here in Ft Worth years ago. It was really relaxed with no odd rules. It even stated if you do your own car maintenance, it has to be done on your property and not in the street. The house turned out to be a little small for what we wanted in the end.

I apologize Jeff if I was being a jerk.

Neither of those installations would be allowed where an ordinance requires that a tower be erected on a lot of sufficient size that if the tower collapsed, no part of it would fall on someone else's property.

Everyone I know who loves hoa life are former apartment tenants who love apartment life because all you have to do is come and go. All maintenance is taken care of, thus the reason for moving into the pre-said environment. They want to live in a setting that requires zero maintaining, because they don’t want to nor like to maintain a property, yet want a slightly larger living area.
I think you're confusing a condominium type community with a "neighborhood" of single-family homes that has an HOA overseeing it.

I just love HOA threads!
It exposes people who want you to chose the way you live like they do and everyone else is just plain wrong.

Think about that, much of the anti HOA people instead of being satisfied in their non HOA lifestyle are telling you how to live your life and it’s just plain wrong to chose a community with HOA rules that the majority of homeowners vote on.
Seems like they are at conflict with themselves 🤔
