Taking the grand babies home last night, the wife hit a skunk that was smack in the middle of the road obliviously doing skunk things. Don’t think she killed it as she was able to straddle it but it sprayed. 😱

I was following her and I didn’t hit the skunk but I must have driven through fresh spray because the Mustang stinks of skunk as well. 🙁

Both cars are parked outside now, planning on car washes but not really optimistic on that doing much. How long do you think before this goes away?

Oddly coincidental yesterday while out for a walk at work I ran into a skunk on the walking trail. I was able get around it but that has never happened before either. Apparently it was skunk day yesterday. 😮

It's the hydrogen peroxide in home brews which negates the odor, not the tomato juice.
Hopefully your 'Stango's ventilation system didn't inhale too many droplets of ....."Skuunnnk".

edit: Years ago I took a gal to a Louden Wainwright (sp?) concert. He and the crowd were in fine form.
My date hadn't heard or heard of "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road" and laughed heartily.

It's going to take a long time for the skunk smell to go away. Be happy it's "only" your cars.

Several years ago our grand dog was staying with us; a sweet middle-aged female German Shepard named Cali. We let her outside to go pee before we went to bed for the night. Cali charged through the door when I let her back in, only for me to realize she had been skunked. In her panic she dropped her upper body down on its shoulders and slid all over the floors trying to get the smell off. It took us a minute or two to grab her and get her back outside.

Our house was WRECKED! The smell was overpowering. After giving Cali a thorough bath at 11PM, I washed all the floors on my hands and knees, cleaning them as throughly as I could. But the smell persisted. Over the next couple of days I washed the floor 3 or 4 more times. No luck.

Even a FULL YEAR after that incident, the house had a slight skunk smell. The smell finally went away when I did a complete remodel of the interior; new floors, all new paint, and a new sofa. Cali never touched a wall or the sofa. The smell permeated onto EVERYTHING!

Totally random thought. Would Natures Miracle with the enzymes clear it up? I'm thinking everything underneath, no clue on paint.

Vet recommended it to me when my cat urinated in carrier and leaked onto my car seat.....in August. I washed the seat, let it air dry outside for a week, seemed OK. Put it back in the car and WHAM ammonia cat urine in your face. Vet said spray the whole area that you think it might have reached, liberally, and let it dry naturally. I did it 2x for good measure. Never had a smell again.....from that.

I have not been without Natures Miracle since then. The disgusting smells it got rid of in my vehicles is amazing. Baby formula, spilled milkshake, vomit, feces, and probably worst or 2nd to worst, water that leaked from black garbage bag that had grass clippings sitting in the sun for at least a week, maybe 2.

Many times per year we have to do the skunk smell test before the dogs are allowed out the backyard. I had a concussion 3 years ago that affected my sense of smell, so my nose is no longer calibrated :ROFLMAO:

Tomato juice is total BS. The hydrogen peroxide with soda water? works , but that's depending on how direct the hit was on the dog.

I hope Pablo is okay 👍

I ran one over into driveway one night on accident, fortunately it didn’t spray. Our dogs have been sprayed in the past, that’s terrible.

I just caught one in a live trap a few weeks ago trying to catch a groundhog. Was able to release it without getting sprayed but was prepared for the worst.

Just a Q. Why did she say she not see the skunk? Headlight issues? Do the brakes work O.K. on the car?

Well, I hope the skunk extravaganza is over for now.

Chlorine dioxide tabs are the way to go.

I’ve used this with good results, or you can find generic bulk tabs for cheaper. This is $25 for a single shot.

Saw him last year. Great concert, funny guy.

I hit one, went right under a tire. I didn't do anything and it seemed to barely be noticeable in 2-3 weeks, gone in 4-5? Only the first couple of days was very strong, but when I was driving the smell went away. The car lived outside. Go drive in the rain or run it through a car wash.
The one outdoor dog got sprayed a few years ago, and it stunk for a few days, and then after a couple weeks it was barely noticeable, just a bit when he got wet.

Went on a 300 mile journey yesterday. Must have been at least 20 roadkill skunks and about 10 opossums. It is mating season and the skunks have extra perfume on for the ladies.
