Hit a skunk!

A skunk sprayed under my house one time. The crawl space screen was off because the young girls, next door, thought it was funny when cats would go underneath. Anyway, the smell dissipated fairly quickly. Must not have been a strong blast (thank heavens).

And even though I live in an urban area, we have various wildlife that pass though the backyard. In addition to skunks, there are opossums, and raccoons. I set out food for the opossums. They like fruit, and cat food. There is a surprising number of them that come though. I'm happy when the little guys show up and eat their fill before the bigger guys drive the others away.

Yeah, I know.. But think about it. Have you ever seen a dirty skunk? The ones I see always look freshly bathed; the black is shiny black and the white is pure white.

And speaking of wild pets, our old neighbors adopted a wounded crow who damaged his wing making it impossible to fly. Ralph and Christine let the crow live in their house. Named him Max. Max walked around like he was part of the family. He lived with them for a couple years before the neighbor's cat got him while he was out for a walk on the patio. Ralph and Christine were genuinely saddened. They loved that bird - and it was obvious he loved them too because of how he interacted with them. Max even used to watch television with them!

I've heard that if a crow gets domesticated like that one they will start talking on occasion like a parrot might. Any truth to this?
