Hijacked

HPL doesn't seem to stick out any more than any other oil brand on BITOG although admittedly having little interest in their products I skip most posts related to HPL.

This is hilarious. ^^^^^^^^^

"Doesn't stick out any more than any other oil brand on here"...

It really seems that by design this site has been hijacked by HPL.
By design? How so? I'd love to hear what you mean by that comment.

With regards to the claim that there is been hijacking, that's preposterous. This site is, always has been and likely always will be "campy". And the board goes through phases where certain products (GC, PU, M1 0W-40, M1 EP 0W-20...etc) become very popular for a while. Here we have a guy that owns an oil company on here answering questions directly, not beating around the bush or giving us lawyer and marketing speak, as well as even making custom products for the userbase. Yeah, that's going to garner some attention. It it no way means the forum has been "hijacked", just means that the products from this company, because of those things, are getting more attention than they otherwise would if that weren't the case. Perfectly normal.

BITOG has its waves. Products of interest, some brands, some types…. Schaeffers was a big one at the start, but recall the others… GC, Pennzoil, Auto-RX, SF, MMO, TCW3, straight weight oils, thick, thin, etc... Remember the arguments about how M1 is noisier?

Very few of these products had any engagement.

The original bob, and @salesrep, a few Amsoil reps including @Pablo, Frank from Auto-RX, @High Performance Lubricants.

Its nice when someone can talk shop about their products.

We’ve seen the conversations about licensing. Big arguments about Amsoil and others. I think most are past that…

All I know is that I’ve been to Pennzoil sponsored events, I’ve been to @High Performance Lubricants sponsored events, I buy some products from each some time when the price, conditions, and use scenarios warrant. I buy other products from other vendors, including Schaeffers and Amsoil… and bound my needs with Supertech and other otc products.

HPL is the latest one of many products of interest. The fact that they have a diversified product list and a willingness to blend very specific things that cater to BITOG user interests means that they will get some favor and interest. Nothing wrong with that. Many of those products are knowingly off of the standard specs and approvals, but are being used (possibly on risk) to cater to users’ interests. Not with a real expectation of adherence to this or that.

Balance and honesty should be the norm for all discourse on here. If something actually malicious is happening, it should be called out. If one product is being treated differently than another, that can be called out and compared/contrasted. That’s why this is a discussion forum.

Hijacked or not, I'm proud to be using HPL 5w20 in our old 2003 Ford Taurus.
With HPL, it's running as quiet and smooth as it ever did with almost 150,000
miles on it.
When oil change time comes, HPL 5w20 will also be going in my 2002 Fodd F-150 FX4.
It's great oil, imho.

A couple of months ago, I ordered three boxes of Havoline Lifelong 5w30 full synthetic. The first two boxes were fine, no problems at all. Then I opened the third box. I knew from the first sip that it tasted a little off. I had just gotten over a cold and was hoping it was something to do with that. I knew instantly when I took that first bite of corn flakes that the oil was stale. The worst part was that it was the last of the corn flakes and the only other oil I had was 0w20. When I called the Havoline hot line, the customer service representative had the nerve to laugh at me. Havoline/Chevron/Texaco has been getting a free ride for too long. I'm glad I've had the opportunity to tell my story.
Seems legit.

Over at the GarageJournal Forum, the flooring subforum has lots of vendors, distributors, and manufacturers that participate in the discussions. I really like it.

^Ha-ha^ to TheLawnRanger's post #14.
Reminded me of the guy who grabbed the left-over white grease packets in a drawer thinking it was mayonnaise for his roast beef sandwich.

To vavavroom: HPL means High Performance Lubricants. They make their own and hosted an open house which attendees loved.

Me: I'm no boutique oil guy but have bought some just to be involved....kinda like buying one share of stock to get you interested.
I have all the respect for anyone (HPL's Dave, for example) who mentions other products being good.
My grandfather sold hardware during the Great Depression and spoke of relative quality all the time.
Morons who sell stuff and act like no competition exists bother me to no end. I regard them as deep liars.

High school kids working in a mall who can't fathom what, "Tall man sizes" mean are just ignorant or permanently brain damaged from Bevis and Butthead.

edit: To Triple3 in Mo: Have you driven a Fodd lately?
