Type R MTF

Get HPL, Amsoil, Redline if you going US companies. If you go something that is not shear stable, depending how much time you spend on track, you might have some issues with shifting due to shearing. Ravenol works bcs. it is a high-quality product.
Also, for engine oil, go Euro oils that have MB 229.5 or MB 229.51/52 approvals.
How many miles would you comfortably run HPL gear life including track duty; or amsoil mtf?

Just to parrot what others wrote, Amoil Syncromesh worked best out of the Redline, Ford XTM5QS, Valvoline and Mazda MTF that I tried.

I don't know until shifting changes. Or your OCD kicks in. I am dumping Redline D4 from my BMW stick shift this weekend after 45,000mls. It has numerous track days at very high altitude (heat is a problem), and it still shifts well. But, again, OCD.

I fully support the OCD changes. If amsoil or hpl make it 35k before I crack the drain plug I'll be impressed.

If you ask me I would write each company name on one piece of paper, then draw it from the hat. Next, fluid change, write two companies on piece of paper you did not use, and draw it. Next one, just use a company you did not before.

Thank you for the recommendations my friend 👌

Hey guys, currently running Ravenol MTF 2 in the Type R. Since doing 2 fluid changes in 10k miles the car has no 2nd gear grind.

However, I both respect and value American business and  want to switch to HPL, thinking their transmission life. After comparing on from the viscosity thread the HPL 75w-75 would be the most appropriate?

The car is 100% daily driven 12-15k miles a year in Pittsburgh, 5 auto x events a year give or take and 1-2 pitt race track days. Currently not tuned but that will change in the spring. Feel free to hijack or race talk, I'm just ready to jump on the HPL train (also thinking 0w20 supercar for autox duty).

If not already, I suggest you get good and acquainted with one of our better known track runners , TiGeo. I am sure you and he can have loads of enjoyable track / speed talk as well as tricks and tips sharing with one an other.

I have no skin in the game on the stick shift questions - my VW that I do track time with has a dual-clutch auto and I change that fluid one a year with Liquimoly's DCT fluid; I use Redline MT90 in my r. diff and bevel box so would likely just use that if I had a stick or HPL's gear oil (I use their oil). If I had a manual I probably wouldn't worry as much maybe every other year? The main reason I change it more frequently is it does see sustained high temps (per logging) and the DSG is quite a bit more $$$ to deal with if it goes vs. a traditional manual gearbox but I'm over-doing it for 8 track days and a few autoX's a year for sure. I actually know a guy/at the track (VIR mainly) with a Type R - check out his YT channel/reach out to him (name is Ben) via comments, I believe he did some manual gear box servicing in one of his videos:

Point has some really good videos on all things type R. I know he's a fan of the AC Delco tranny fluid. I'll probably do more auto cross then track, mainly due to a local shop owner being a national competitor running an FK8. He said he would help me dial my FL5 in for some fun runs.

I wouldn't mind dialing the R in to run with my uncles on Porsche night at Pitt race though 😆
