High Performance Lubricants No VII series engine oils.

It was stated that ethanol reduces the effectiveness of ZDDP. It's because ZDDP is an ester which can undergo transesterification from reactions with the alcohol. It's a complicated chemical process, see Le Chatelier's principle to learn more about it. That said, ethanol boils at 174°F and only comprises 10% of the fuel volume. So long as the engine is fully warmed up, the ethanol wash isn't going to be a major issue. The majority of the fuel left behind in the oil are your heavy aromatics and n-olefins like toluene, xylenes, ethylbenzenes, etc... that have boiling points as high as 400°F for some of them and won't evaporate out.

Most E10 and E0 pump fuel has a 50% distillation point between 200-225°F. If the engine is being run at full temperature and showing dilution in the UOA after a long drive, it's likely the actual amount of fuel entering the crankcase is about double that amount. The UOA is only seeing the ~50% that didn't evaporate out.
Yes thank you, I had forgotten about that. More evidence that fuel dilution is not benign.

Great post.

This is neat! I remember HPL’s David mentioned that HPL was working on this no-VII series a couple of weeks ago.
I was thinking of sending a question to David Ward about the development, but this thread answers my questions.

I look forward to using this series of oils.

David, what oil do you think would be best for a marine Ford flat tappet engine? I am mostly concerned with camshaft and tappet wear and the 160 degree thermostat that is specified for freshwater use. Do you think the cold engine temperatures would prevent the anti wear additives from being fully activated?
What will kill your engine is the time between the boat sitting and being used..

You clearly missed the most interesting point, as a true bitoger, you must know that thicker is better. 😇
Up to the point where it is too thick. Think diminishing returns. Once the parts are kept seperated, seperating the parts more has no return.

Received my order ! 12 quarts of euro 10w20. I also ordered the gun lube/cleaner.

Items were perfectly clean, no oil anywhere!

I have a tank of techron to run through each car and and air filter change before switching to this oil.

Really looking forward to ordering some of this once my stash of Amsoil is gone.

I think everyone who asked HPL to make up this line should consider ordering. I would hate to see @High Performance Lubricants go to the trouble of developing this and making it at some of our requests, and it not getting ordered.

I think its amazing that David was part of this thread, and listened to members here, then made up a product line specifically for us!! Where else would you find that type of customer attention?

I do believe more will as soon as the PCMO becomes available.

I was thinking about getting some for my friend with a WRX but I'm not sure he will use it. He swears by RP and has switched all fluids to that brand. I think he is just using the regular RP API licensed in his engine. So, I would hate to spend the money and he not use it.

He swore by liqui moly voll-synthese for his Audi. I never used it.
