Here it is: 2015 Ford F-150

Is the 8 speed that much better? I know it has a deeper first gear, but at some point, if you're working the vehicle, those super tall OD gears just get redundant. And if you're not working the vehicle often, then you don't need that deep gearing that often (just let the torque convertor do the work).

I think I like the Colorado better; maybe in something other than red it's not so "in your face". The Ford is more conservative, which looks nicer but that slabside front view of a grill...

Is it me, or is that F150 photo make it look like its not 2 feet off the ground? I can't tell if its just perspective or not. It looks lower slung than current trucks. Assuming those are not 20+ inch wheels I might be ok with it.

Forget 8 speeds as Ford and GM are co-developing a ten speed slushbox!

Seriously, I have thought for years the pinnacle of automatic trans development was the 4l80E. Smooth, simple, and very long lasting.

But my new 2013 3500 Express is a six speed 6l90E and it is fantastic on the road. It won't even consider top gear unless you go over 50 no matter what you do. VERY nice slushbox.

Mo speeds equals mo betta trans!

I dunno, I've coax mine into sixth at 50 or less. What's odd is that it'll hold 5th at 30 most of the time! Barely idling. Of course, it has to downshift for any sort of grade, and it just loves flex-lockup; but it tries really hard to keep the rev's down. I do like the up/down shift buttons, for someone who drives stick most of the time I sometimes wish the up button actually made it upshift on command.

4L80, that was based on the TH400, decent transmission, decent ratios. 4L60 I thought had too big of a jump between gears.

The more I look at new trucks the more I want to keep pouring money into mine, I just need it to run another 30 years...

Even the new Silverado's have big stupid looking chrome grills.

Good lord, that is even worse than I expected, and I wasn't expecting anything good.

That is a megatron Tonka dump truck monstrosity. Take it to Pull-A-Part and kill it.

The interior really doesn't look good to me. Typical modern chintzy interior with ugly blocky shapes everywhere and CHEAP silver painted plastic. The whole cheap silver paint on cheap plastic look that has been growing for about a decade just says CHEAP and UGLY! Putting LEDs in every corner does not make the interior nice, nor does the chunk of faux wood above the glove box. Excessive stitching on the seats for no reason does not make it nice either. Correct ergonomics with a clean, non-Playskool interior made of quality (QUALITY, NOT FLASHY, I REPEAT QUALITY!) materials is the way to go. I suppose at least the general ugliness and cheapness of the interior distracts me from the jumbotron in the middle of the dash.

It really kills me that all you can get anymore for a truck is a megatron jumbotron Playskool Little Tikes Power Wheels that is morbidly obese and still gets bad fuel economy. I'm not even a "vinyl bench seats ONLY" type when it comes to trucks...I like a nice leather wrapped steering wheel, a great stereo (without TV), cupholders and storage and all that...I hate overstyled interiors that look cheap and dated within a year or two, jumbotrons on the dash, LEDs everwhere, silver paint, etc.

If I ever buy a new truck it's probably going to have to be a Ram, but at this point I think it's highly unlikely I will like a new truck enough to buy one. I'm done even hoping for something nice to come out, I'm just going to have to keep the old stuff going.

Truck makers must be having a competition to see who can design the ugliest truck. The only truck design that looks good right now is Ram.

Probably costs $50k outfit like that, which is insane.

Obnoxiously large grills must be what buyers want, since Chrysler started the trend in a mild way back in the 'nineties and it's only grown more extreme since.
Forget the tacky looks (applies to Dodge, Chevy and Toyota pickups as well) and consider Ford's daring new construction materials.
Remember that most of these things will be delivered as strippo work trucks, not fancy rigs for those tough shopping trips to the mall.
Ford has reduced the weight of this truck substantially and the benefit in real world fuel economy, as well as acceleration, braking and handling will be unmatched in any GM or Chysler pickup.
Somebody has finally lightened a vehicle line which has only gotten heavier with each new model over the past few decades.
Unless the aluminum body proves lacking in durability, which I'd doubt, Ford has a winner here.

First thing I thought when I saw it.

The Tundra and the F-150 are going to morph into the same truck.

Just like a megatron...

Transformertrons...activate jumbotron iPad dash!!! "Doo doo dooo doo doo dooo doo doo dooo."

Most obnoxious chime ever put in a vehicle starts at 1:35 for those who have not heard this horrible noise over and over again.

It's scary that I actually like a Chrysler product when there are other competitors!

However, if "Ram"'s history repeats itself, they are going to come out with an even more over the top design to be even more blingy than GM and Ford. I hope they don't do it.

The current generation "Ram" trucks are reminiscent of the 99-04 Super Duty ... which I think is probably the best looking truck of the past 20 years.

Don't like their interior though. Even the base models are too blocky and plasticy.

Note that comparably equipped Fords have been 3-400 pounds heavier than GM products for years, so they had a lot of weight to lose!

Check the curb weights. Poundage is something you pay for over the life of the vehicle in tires, brakes, etc.

I like the idea of aluminum (light weight), but it's definitely getting uglier with age. It's looking too much like a Tundra in the front.

I look forward to the day when trucks fall out of fashion and go back to being blue collar work vehicles.

Where things like tailgate lift over height, costs of operation and repair, and easy serviceability take presidence over all this silliness.

Another downside of this silly front ends is a simple fender bender now costs thousands.

If 4l80E was the pinnacle of auto trans development we're screwed. A quick google search will show alot of cases of leaking around the front and rear seal. First trans I've ever had to leak.

And yes, it's terrible.

the 2012 explorer dad bought a couple months back has that horrific tone as well, it cuts right though my psyche, and makes me cringe. That sound ALONE will keep me from considering a Ford until they get rid of it. (and i hope someone in the aftermarket comes up with a way to replace that sound with a less grating sound - nails on a chalk board perhaps, or a bag pipe being played off-key - cause i'd love to get either a Taurus or Explorer police interceptor a few years down the line)

and as for the new truck YAY!!! 2 of the 4 engine choices are/will be made here in my home town, adding jobs.
here's the story from my local paper:
Ford unveils lighter F-150 at Auto Show - limaohio.com

Fords have also had heftier frames than GM pickups for years, so it's understandable that they'd weigh a bit more.
