Looking to trade my 2006 dodge durango 4.7 4x2 with 50k on it.Looking to get a four door mid size car(used 2006-2008)my top choices are: nissan altima,vw jetta and toyota camry. All in 4 cyl engines.hopefully i can get an even trade, the durango is paid for and in great shape im just feeling the pinch in gas prices, this truck is bad in gas mileage

I'd stay away from the Jetta, it does not have a good track record for reliability.

Can't go wrong with Camry or Accord, there is a reason they are best-sellers.

I would not buy the VW. The Altima will be alot more athletic with a harsher ride than the Camry. I'dd replace the VW with the Accord and the Fusion. Both of those also would be more sporty than the Camry.

I thought the last gen Fusion's interior was below average, certainly not as nice as the VW and worse than the Accord/Camry by a bit as well. The 06/07 Accords are a lot smaller than the 08+. I love mine.

Either the Fusion or the Malibu. I've driven all of them, and my favorite is the fusion, followed by the malibu. I'd take the malibu personally because I like the styling better.

I drive both the Ford Fusion and Toyota Camry on a daily basis, and both are extremely comparable in my opinion. There are pros and cons to both. In one sentence, I think the Fusion has a sportier feel to it and I think the Camry has a better laid-out and executed interior. Either one fits the bill as a midsize sedan nicely.

The Fusion doesn't sell as well as I would expect. Its sales numbers never compete with the Camry/Accord/Altima, and I'm not sure why. It's a better car than its sales numbers would make you think.

Altima: relatively fun to drive, reliable, not as comfy as Camry

Jetta: probably the most fun to drive out of the three. Reliability typically not on par with the others.

Camry: reliable and comfy, but may put you to sleep.

Fusion and Accord should also be considered.

gotta second this one, the seventh gen (03-07) was universally praised by the auto press and owners alike; the I-4 is very good on gas and, paired with the slick 5-manual, a joy to drive. i recently averaged 36.6 mpg on a trip to nyc and back, ~430 miles, calculated with pen and paper. i will not be trading my '04 anytime soon. it is luxurious enough, peppy enough, efficient, and reliable. the 4cyl has a timing chain, and uoa's on the engine (used in the crv, element, and acura tsx) have been stellar.

VW Passat would be mid sized against Accord and Camry and can be had with TDI and wagon variant.

More room inside, nicer interior, better fuel mileage.

FYI> the Fusions in that year have the 2.3 (cartridge filter) & 5 spd. If buying Fusion, I'd go newer and get the 2.5 (spin-on) 6 spd. There's nothing wrong with the 2.3, the newer Fusions are just better.

The other suggestions would be great as well (except the Jetta). What, no Avenger? Keep it in the family. It would be the cheapest by far

If you are considering an Altima or Camry, you should at least stop on your way to look at a Mazda 6 or a Ford Fusion.

Both are at least as reliable as the Altima if not more reliable.

And you could probably get a really good price on a Saturn Aura. It's mechanically identical to a Malibu so you should be able to get parts for a long time. At a distance, you might think it was an Opel Vectra.

My wife has a 2006 Accord SE (5 speed) and its a great car for the money, much better car than my 2007 Civic EX.

your ride is paid for. but your going to spend at least 10k for a new car. how much in gas prices will you recoup by going to a 4 cylinder car?

Jetta. Friend and co-worker both have a 05.5 model (2.5L I5) and their vehicles have been trouble-free after almost 60k.
