I'm suprised they didn't check for that.

I go to the doctor for leg pain. Do not have any of the classic symptoms of a clot. No firmness, leg was not hot....nothing that would indicate a blood clot but that was the first thing they wanted to check was for a clot.

The sonographer was the best looking late-40's woman I have ever seen (think Raquel Welch in her '40s...but better)and she was very thorough on examining my leg. Very thorough. So it wasn't all bad.

Completely pointless and expensive for a torn muscle though.

To the OP, get yourself looked at. I have neuropathy in my left hand from a pinched ulnar nerve. I let it go, figuring it would get better. It didnt. Five yrs later, I had it fixed . I'm not cured, just not getting worse. The neuropathy in my feet is from chemo and is permanent. You have to careful. Some stuff you can handle with rest. Other stuff can get serious really quick.

Just wanted to give an update...

My regular doctor saw me today and had the info from the ER. I'm doing more extensive blood work tomorrow. Results should be Monday.

He's referring me to a neurologist and also wants to get an ultrasound on some different areas to see about blockages. Hopefully, someone will find something.

Believe me, I about had a panic attack last night from all of it. Today I feel calmer - trying to keep my stress level down.

Thanks for the prayers and thoughts. I debated on sharing about my health, but glad I did.

I wish you the very best. Please keep us up to date on how you are doing. Plus if you are OK with posting the diagnosis. It seems that many of us have never heard of this. It would be good to know.

Hey Mike..... ok so when you say it went from hot to cold was that to the touch? or just the internal feeling of your foot? Do you know how to check your pulses in your foot? if so do it and see if they are equal bilaterally. Also is there a history of A-fib in your family? You can feel your pulse to see if it feels regular....like the beats are all the same....not like you speed up and slow back down very quickly. So tell your dr you want a D-Dimer test done as well as the Hgb A1C. Also an ultrasound to your extremities is a good idea. Also an EKG to see if you are in a-fib or not. Possibly wearing a monitor for 24 hours at home. Until you get these things checked do not massage your legs. If there is a clot you can dislodge it and then it travels somewhere like your brain, lung, or heart.....all of which can be deadly. You should have a CMP blood draw as well to check to see what your electrolytes are doing as well as some other things. Do you have any fevers? Are your feet or hands puffy? Are you urinating normally? Does your urine smell sweet? Not to be sick but they used to taste urine to see if it was sweet to test for diabetes. You should really limit your movement until a clot if ruled out. Like I said about the massage....it can travel if it is a clot. One blood sugar test that is normal means absolutely nothing. Sorry if I am jumping around but a lot of things are coming to mind. If you can post a pic of your legs I could possibly help more. If your primary care dr does not do anything like I have suggested I would find a good pulmonologist that is also an intesivist. Or a cardiologist or possibly an infectious disease dr. Anything I can do to help please dont hesitate to ask but I WOULD NOT WAIT until monday!! No way if your symptoms are the way I am taking it your life could be in danger at any moment. Not trying to scare you but a pulmonary embolism sounds like a strong possibility. So please do not take a doctor telling you that you can wait to be seen until monday! Patients right to care....they have to see you or refer you to someone that can see you for your problems! Prayers also sent your way.

Yeah, my foot and hand have both gone extremely cold to the touch. This occurs randomly and so does the numbness in my right foot.

I haven't had any more numbness in my hands, chest, or face. My doctors suspects I panicked, maybe hyperventilated, when that occurred. I can't say he's wrong because I really was panicked at the time.

The numbness in my right foot comes and goes. I have quite a bit of pain around the calf and ankle, so I suspect that's nerve pain or pain from the varicose veins. Not real sure, because it travels a bit and the location isn't consistent. No swelling or hotness, but it's tender to touch. Pain is worse at night.

Pulse in my feet are good. Same in both hands. The ER checked that as well.

I don't notice any heart related concerns. My regular doctor and the ER both said they weren't concerned either. I didn't show any signs of clots in the artery system, but they said I could have one in a superficial vein.

I'll probably be referred to a vein or vascular doctor after the neurologist.

They checked electrolytes and they were fine. No kidney or urine issues. Everything seems to be fine there.

I'm waiting on hearing on the A1C and they're checking alot of disorders, vitamin b12, thyroid, etc. in the next bloodwork. I'm supposed to hear something today on that.

I see the neurologist in 2 weeks.

Pretty crazy stuff. I can honestly say that if someone is not getting a check up, don't be like me and wait until something major happens! I have learned a lesson in all of this. I've also changed my eating habits and lost around 9 pounds since this all started.

IMHO you are not getting aggressive enough care. I think you are being treated minimally until something bigger and worse happens. I am not trying to be rude or anything like that. I see these things a lot and its part of a larger problem. If there is nothing acute going on now then it seems like you have something more serious underlying. If there really is nothing acute going on then you need a major live change and it sure seems like you need some exercise if you are able to. NOT right now! Do not exercise when you might have a clot! But if these Dr.'s are not going to do anything I feel like you need to change them for some new ones. If there is something I might be able to help you with please ask. Hope you feel better.

I hope you find out what is going on. I have never heard of anything like this before, it is very scary-sounding.

I've got a friend who went through medical school and has had 14 blood clots over the years. He's lucky to be alive, because he's had 2 PEs, 2 heart attacks, and a stroke. Former special forces, so that says something. He told me to see a vascular surgeon as well.

I called my regular doctor today and explained the pain symptoms with his assistant, because they seem to be worse. He's going to call me soon. I'm going to explain that I'm going to get an appointment with the vascular center at the hospital. Pain is really bad on the inside of my left ankle and on the back of my right calf from the ankle to about halfway to the back of the knee. I don't know if the left ankle is overcompensation for the right hurting so much the last few days, but it is possible.

Ultrasound is set for Wed.. they're doing my entire chest, abdomen, etc. They're going to check for clots and aneurysms. I see the neurologist on Monday.

Blood work is great except for HDLs are low and B12 was low but in "normal" range. Taking a multivitamin and B12 supplements now. Not a diabetic according to the A1C (it was a 5.6).

Maybe I should up my life insurance.

BTW, you all are a great bunch of guys. Thanks for the thoughts.

Any news? You've gotten us a bit concerned.

This thread just makes me sad. I truly hope that you can find and fix the cause of this. It sounds as serious as serious can be.
