I am looking for a headset for desk phone in my home office. None of my cordless phones have headphone jacks. I see Jabra has some for around $200. I want it over the head, not hanging off my ear.

Any ones people love?

I cannot use my cell at home, so its got to me a normal desk phone type of setup.

I currently use a Plantronics CS540. I like it, however, the phones handset needs to be off the hook for it to work properly with my Cisco IP Phone 7940 and I need to actually use the phone to answer and end calls. This could be different for other phones.

I have it set for over the head but it gives you the option for both.

I am thinking I will just dial or answer from one of my cordless phones and then mute it.

Jabra PRO 920 Silver/Black Headband Headsets: jabra pro 920
remote handset lifter: remote handset lifter
^^
just so you get the idea... i think ebay has some search filters on headsets for earhook, headset/single....
predominant seems to be jabra and plantronics....
if too expensive look for "manufacturer refurbished"
maybe try search "single headset for "

I use a plantronics CT12 for a few years now and am mostly happy with it. we use various Plantronics headsets at work - they seem to have a decent value/price/quality balance

I suggest you get a good set of cordless phones from Walmart, Sams, costco etc that have phone jack and then buy an inexpensive phone headset for the cordless phone. You end up with better flexibility and likely less expensive overall cost. Also if you are on phone a lot like me for work it is easy to move the headset to a charged handset when the current handset battery is running low and you will always have a fully charged phone handset ready. Also the headsets wear out (mostly wiring) from wear and tear after about a year of heavy use so easy to replace just the simple headset for about 20-25 bucks.

Or you can even buy a computer headset at that point (abundance of these available) plus an adapter for the phone jack.

The only cordless phone at Walymart with a headphone jack was a Panasonic. The VTECH, AT&T do not seem to have headphone jacks at least the ones I saw.

What I am going to try tomorrow is to use my cell and its headphone jack and a cheap headset. While I do not have cell service, I have WIFI and the Vonage Extensions app (on my smartphone) that will allow me to place calls via the Vonage Extensions app and have them sent via WIFI to the Vonage network.

It will work, but unsure of the sound quality.

Yup. Panasonic phones is what I use at my home office, specifically because they have the jacks. They are great phones otherwise, too.

I looked through the vast list of Panasonic phones on Amazon and some do have headphone jacks, but there is no filter, you must look at the specs for each one.

For the time being I am using my smartphone with the Vonage extensions app and a cheap ear bud and hanging mic type of headset.

I see some cordless phone come with blue tooth headsets and some allow you to use a blue tooth headset (your own). I am wondering in that case whether the headset pairs with the base or handset?

I have also tried a Motorola SD-10 sport headset, but I think thats more for listening to music although it does have a mic.
