We use Mobil super synthetic for syn changes at the shop, dispensed from 6 gallon boxes like the pit packs, eco boxes etc. I wish all our oil was like this. As far as Shell's ecobox systems, in my research it's only available to commercial outlets. I know Walmart has the eco box Quaker state for the pit crew changes, and I think their Pennzoil changes use eco box oil as well.

I think those are meant for the quickie lube or professional market where they can probably get a much better price purchasing dozens of them at a time. Obviously the Havoline-branded lube shops are franchised by Chevron where they'll sell the oil at a good price.

I can see the benefit of those compared to 55 gallon drums. I know that reels usually have long hoses accessible in the service bay, but I'd think it's a lot easier to deal with a 40 lb box of motor oil. Don't 55 gallon drums require a forklift?

If those big boxes fit your needs then I would suggest contacting a Chevron distributor. That is where you might see some savings.

Thats what I buy for my shop. $92.88 for 6 gallons from the local Chevron dist.

No Dexos cert on that box-front shown above.
That Dexos cert is shown on the front of all applicable jugs everywhere else.

Cost and convenience is the reason I would like to buy a big box. One would assume the 6 gallon box would be less expensive than multiple 6 qt boxes. Your cost of 92.88 for 6 gallons calculates it at 3.87 a quart. I buy the 6qt box of Pro Ds 5w30 for 19.97 at walmart, thats 3.32 a qt. It appears for a consumer there is no real benefit. I actually used my first box last night on the fusion from my stash of Havoline 6 qt smart change. I actually liked the way the bag in a box worked, it has a large opening which pours quickly, no glug glug of air and no clean up, just toss the box in the garbage and your done. I would like to see other companies come out with the same container. Vehicles now are coming with larger oil capacity than ever before, I couldent believe my new f150 takes 10qts. Even DIY 10qts and a filter is pricey. I bet a quick lube place with name brand synthetic and name brand filter would be over 100 bucks.

The boxes are the future. It's funny because a long time ago, a case of oil was 24 qt cans in a cardboard box. Now, you get 24 qts of oil in a plastic bag in a cardboard box. Funny how things cycle around. The small six quart boxes are good for diy changes, as most people have no use for six gallons of oil at a time. From a shop perspective, the six gallon boxes are economical, ergonomic, and frankly much much less waste than quarts or five quart jugs. The boxes are better than drums as well, because it's much easier to diversify your product offerings.

Very well said. We use VW spec 0w20 from Castrol in the 6gal boxes as well as Service Pro 0w40

So it's written on the back of the box then?
Answer please!

FYI..
.Last year I purchased one of those 6 gallon boxes of QSGB at Walmart in Florida....
this particular Walmart didn't have an auto center and received these boxes by mistake and had a few on the end of the oil aisle with no price on them.....when I scanned one it showed $9....I ended up buying one and leaving the other two because wifey would have complained....I left the container in the storage shed attached to the carport at my condo and a year later the box had distorted and even leaked a slight amount (the lower part of the cardboard was .a bit oily).....I'm sure the temperature reached the high 90s several times but I had no such issue with the 5 qt. (plastic) jug of syn. that was left in that shed......just something to keep in mind.

Never thought about this, but I will say this typically isn't a problem because most shops will go through copious amounts of oil much quicker than the average diy consumer. Let me ask you this; how thick is the bag the qs oil came in? The only thing I'm not fond of with our Mobil super bags is that that the bag is much thinner than I'd have expected. Always take care pulling the spout out to not damage the bag.

This is also a concern of mine since the old cardboard cans would do the same thing.

This doesn't make sense to me since it has a plastic bladder inside the box.

It also doesn't say on the box that it cleans and prevents deposits from forming. Oh the horror!!

But that is what DS means. Deposit Shield.

If it doesn't say Dexos on the box, it's not Dexos-certed inside the box. If the Dexos cert appears on a jug, then it's certed. It if does not appears on a box, then it's assumed it's not.
If it doesn't say it reduces or checks deposits, then (like Supertech), it probably doesn't. There's plenty of room on that box to outline the oil's benefits, just like on a jug of oil.

Oh' I'm right! and the horror is you are wrong.

That's not the same box as pictured above. Yours is much prettier too.....lol

Wait..... no spout on yours. I wonder if the pic above is really the backside? Does your pretty backside (pun intended) look like his pictured above.... which I thought was front-side?

The plastic bag is a container that used the cardboard for structural support. IV fluids, blood and other important fluids have been stored and dispensed in bags for years. The only way this is going to leak in a reasonable storage time and conditions is if it is punctured or mishandled (dropped ) for some reason. The square box makes for ease of shipping and storage and the volume is ideal for many newer vehicles..,
