Have you stressed out about what oil to use?

I thought you had a 2018 vehicle with the 6.2

Indeed from that grade recommendation it should be a 78 with a 5.7.

I like your idea to go with 0w40. Ive never had a warranty issue or worried about it but that might be a concern i guess. I dunno if the burden of proof is on the car owner to prove they did or didnt change oil with a specific weight or not. Id certainly tell them to prove I didnt. Dont think they could prove either way what weight was used since it could thicken or shear down anyway.

Its 5w30 Dexos for street and 5w40 dexos 2 for track.
2019 new Camaro: 0w40 Dexos 2.

Hahha ok ok

But hey, during the times it was fun tho. Learned more about oil! 🙂

I used to when I had a VW TDI that had a model of engine known for eating camshafts. I bought fancy Pentosin 5w40 that met the 505.01 oil spec.

For my current fleet? Nah, as long as it's on clearance. $2 per quart or less is all I pay. I have a pretty good sized stash so I'm not worried right now. I have my preferences for weights for each car, like 10w30 or 10w40 for the Jeep. No 20 weight oils for the Sonata.

I seriously doubt anyone on BITOG stresses out about engine oil. Some (experts, chemists, engineers, retired, etc.) do it for living and he rest of us are just interested in learning ...
the only group I'm not sure about is race car crew/drivers. They may stress out some

I should add that oils these days are too good to stress over. Maybe a little concern sometimes and that's all.

I used too. Now I just grab a jug of Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 and a Fram Ultra or Mobil 1 oil filter. Can't go wrong with that. I change them when the car calls for an oil change or when it hits about 20% remaining according to the OLM.

Don't let the previous posts fool you... Spent a few minutes on here and you know they all stress out about oil, it's BITOG! Ha ha!

Bought a oil and returned and keep thinking and searching etc etc and even just standing front of Oil section at WM lol.

But after spend more times here and now i have finally decided which oil to go with. (I have decided just forget Dexos and go Castrol 0W40 or M1 0W40.)

Anyone ever got stressed out about oil? Am i too crazy? LoL

Oh BIG thanks to this forums and members here!

Seeing as GM has spec'd 5w40 and 0w40 for that engine I would run it without reservation.

Great point sir. When I looked at opening post I just shook my head and grabbed a beer

I grabbed a pot edible and laid back!
Legal in Colorado we are not a stone age state.

For a time I worried that the 20w50 I use in my Elantra may be too thick. However, after some thorough internet searching I found an online pdf format owners manual for my 2010, for the Australian market, in which it deemed 20w50 to be acceptable. I'm in blazing hot California, so never again did I hesitate to use 20w50.

10W40 is thick enough for any place in the south-mainland USA. Just because 20-50 is allowed, doesn't mean it works best for that engine.
What prompted using such a thick oil? Surely a reason behind it - being the Honda only sees 5w20 and Australia uses thicker for Hondas.

The last time I owned a Honda sedan - 2014 - the original guidance was a 5w40 a3/b4 every year or 10k kilometers. A year or two later I got told low viscosity Idemitsu 0w20 every six months. Increased fuel economy they say. The weather in my city (the deep south of India) goes to 110F in the shade in summers, and a pleasant winter even G is like high 60s / mid 70s. The engine sounded harsh with the 0w20 so I moved right back to 5w40. The Oz outback and desert sees much higher heat levels and also dust / dirt so..

I think you found your answer...

My old clunkers don't care but if I had anything newer that 2010 I'd run what the OM says. I do use what the OM says (except the Ranger) but no stressing involved.

EDIT: Well, I am stressing. Thinking of tearing myself away from M1 and changing the Ranger and 4Runner to ST. :-0

That's about all that really matters, honestly
This should be a stickie.

This guidance is a gas passenger, or diesel, built and driven for the USA climate?
