Have you ever owned a convertible?

Lots of Midget talk, here is the one we had:

Wife's car we currently own, purchased from 1 owner at 30K miles. 06 Solara, 3.3 V6, SLE, Absolutely Red, black convertible top, now 209K.

Original plugs (I know), original struts. Two timing belts. Still drives like a dream. Best car we have ever owned.

I've had two... 1993 240sx vert, bought it right after 9/11 happened. It was sitting on a mom and pop lot for a couple months, and I had been eyeballing it on Autotrader watching the $8000 price drop a few hundred every couple weeks. It got down to $4000, so I went out to see it, it looked showroom new, there wasnt a single scratch on it and the interior looked like it had never been sat in. I asked why the big price drop, guy said he was taking it to auction that week, he took it in on a trade from a young couple who just had a baby, he was tired of looking at it, and was just trying to break even. I asked him how much he had in it, he said $3500, I offered $3700 and he literally just shrugged his shoulders and mumbled "um.... ok, fine... whatever". It had 72k miles on it when I bought it and had almost 400k when I stopped driving it in 2020. So my net was a little over $3,000 for a daily driver I drove 325,000 miles over almost two decades. Great car.... Torquey little thing, not fast but it drove great, and reliability was stellar. But it started to rust badly on the underside and I sold it to my daughters coworker for $600. I found it about six months later in a nearby junkyard, he wrecked it. That was a depressing find.

And the current one, 2019 Fiat 124 Spider. The 1.4t Fiat multiair engine with a proper tune and aftermarket exhaust is a perfect match for the Miata FD chassis this car is built on. Its tiny inside, therefore a bit less easy to live with on a daily basis than the 240sx was. My golf clubs wont fit in the trunk, they have to go on the passenger seat. And they barely fit. The trunk will hold a week's worth of groceries, if you arent that hungry. Bought it right as covid was shutting everything down in a hurry. I was looking at new Miatas but even with the world shutting down and nobody buying cars the local Mazda dealers werent budging on prices at all, and I wasnt keen on dropping $30k on a toy when people were losing their jobs left and right. Ventured out to a Dodge/Fiat dealer about an hour away in Seymour Indiana. Pulled in the dealer, lights were turning off, just two old sales guys walking around closing up the lot. One yells out, says "Whatever that sticker says, take $6000 off". They were getting ready to close but he came out, threw us the keys and said take your time, we'll still be here a while longer. I asked him why he was taking $6000 off before we even looked at it or drove it, he said "This is Indiana, Billy-Bobs around here only want one of three vehicles... white pickups, black pickups, or red pickups.....Fiats dont sell here, once these are gone, the owner is taking the Fiat sign down." And about two months later, they did.

Anyway, people can make fun of Fiats all they want, I've heard every Tony joke about them, meatheads at stoplights rolling down their windows making high school level quips on my manhood for driving a car like this, quality of Italian cars, and everything else.... this car is an absolute hoot to drive.

91 miata and 2000 s2000, 1972 Toyota FJ40 . Wish I had a hard top for the 2 cars. Dropping the top is fun for a few minutes a few times a year. The Landcruiser was fun with no top/doors and a bikini top

I had a 1969 Datsun SPL311 in college, and my Wrangler is also a droptop. Aside from another Jeep a convertible doesn't interest me, especially since they aren't allowed at BMW CCA HPDEs.

When living on the East Coast in 2010, I happened upon someone downsizing their fleet, and picked-up this rare beauty, an '08 Audi RS4 Cabriolet with 8k miles on the clock (1 of 3 Misano Red w/Silver Interior in US):

I moved to the West Coast soon after, rented for awhile, but then had to sell it to fund the 20% downpayment on a house:(. The 4.2L V8 w/8200 rpm redline & 6-spd manual gearbox was great for spirited drives in the mountains. With only 317 ft-lbs of torque & AWD, it wasn't quick off-the-line, unless you wanted to abuse the clutch.

Since this is a BITOG thread, the oil capacity was 10 qts>, as it had a deep sump and a large capacity oil cooler.

Never had one, but my step mother had a beautiful ‘74 TR-6. She lived in BC, and we went on a fairly long drive through mountain highways - the growl of that straight-6 with the top down was awesome!
Buddy had a Pontiac Sunfire convertible, triple white. It was a nice car you didn’t see too often in that combo. Nice car to cruise in.

Just a 58 Vette with a removable hard top. I can't stand them otherwise. A person needs to be a look at me type to want one. And they leak in rain storms and are dangerous with no roll bars. So only convertible types for me need a hard top option.

No. Riding to work in a LeBaron convertible and being in many soft top Jeeps has really drove home the point that I don’t want one.

I like the Fiat sharp looking car !
Much classier looking than a miata in my eyes .......

No, soo dusty here that a freind of Mine after driving 30 years min (summer time) spent 1 hour of cleaning inside:) the car was ford escort or Audi TT but cannot be sure, long time ago.

My wife loved her convertibles. We owned 3 Sebring convertibles over the years. Two were soft tops and one was a hard top. She really wants another one but due to her medical conditions and meds sun is a no no for her now. My brother had a Karma Ghia convertible and my step dad had an Audi convertible.

How about you guys.
