Has GTX changed with the new "anti sludge" label?

I dunno, it seems some of the original Mannix post is now in question.

But according to him the new version marked as "anti-sludge" has a new anti-wear additive package that delivers outstandng results in reduced wear. Let's hope that:
*Mannix is on the level, and
*He doesn't get in trouble for sharing info with us here on BITOG!

I was told by Castrol that their "new" GTX was a totally new formula (at least in the 5w20 grade). What Mannix posted confirmed this and revealed exactly what made it new and unique (though he said the new formula was for all grades of GTX). He probably revealed proprietary info in that post and that is why he asked that it be deleted.

As of right now I fully intend to switch to GTX. If Mannix posted misinformation, I'll still be using oil that exceeded Ford's 930a standard.

If Mannix is correct it'll just be the cherry on the cake.

Well, it looks like the "Gold Rush" has started for Castrol GTX 5W-20.

Viscosity retention, is one aspect of the GTX conventional oils, that has always caught my eye in the UOA forum.

And for those that still don't entirely buy into the thin oil philosophy, the GTX 5W-20, listed at 9.1 cSt on the product data sheet, is a good option for getting into the game with a 5W-20.

Is Castrol the best formulator?

-I think we all agree that GC is a great oil.
-Now we hear that the newest GTX is something special too.

-What about the "regular" syntec full synthetic oils? There is almost no UOA's on them. However, my last OCI I used it specifically just to do something Anti Bitog. All of my wear numbers dropped dramatically compared to M1. Fe was 1/3. Cu almost dissappeared. Maybe the regular Syntec 5W30 and 10W30 oils are really good too?

Winston,

I don't think that there is much question as to performance of any of the Syntec grades. The problem is that if you buy on cost/performance you will likely buy a mineral. If you by on "it's the best", then you will by a Group IV/V. So, even with great performance, most of the Syntec line is avoided by the practical (GrpII), the snobs (Grp IV/V), or the insulted (won't pay that for Grp III).

Ya just gotta love this!

A new affliction has been identified, something on the order of "Syntec Avoidance Syndrome".

Practical (Grp II) - Desire "best value" for a motor oil.

Synthetic Purists (Grp IV/V)- If it is synthetic & has a big $ price tag, it has to be good.

Insulted by Faux Synthetics (GRP III)- This is the "Whaaat, do you think I'm stupid or something?" crowd that is convinced that Grp III synthetics are an example of the Robin Hood saga, stealing from the poor to line the pockets of the rich!

**Note - This is all in fun, don't feel insulted & fill up my mailbox with PM's!
