What is everyone's overall impression of Risoline? i bought a quart of it, few weeks ago, but decided to use auto-rx instead. i did my research on Risoline online, and have read mostly negative results form others, saying it caused thier enigne to slowly die, or caused their valve stems to leak badly. others have said, they run it for 700 to 1,500 miles before oil change, or with new oil, with good results! But those are the lower pecentage of positive users. Ive read and been told, it does in fact clean an engine out VERY well!! but its still a risk, because it can cause enigne failure.
i also see they make a 15 oz. bottle. If i wanted to later, try risoline, maybe thats the way to go? Last 500, or 700 miles or so, then drain? jsut been searching for a really good cleaner, that can be used form time to time, to literally, clean the entire insides out, down to the metal!
what does all have to say?

Won't find many fans of it on this site.

I used it for years on my work vehicles that some ran over 300,000 miles with no engine problems before I sold them off.

I used the "add anytime" formula about 700 miles before oil changes.

Now with all my vehicles (work fleet and personal) I never had any engine problems at all.

Not saying it was due to Rislone as I have almost always used top synthetic oils, good filters and moderate OCI's, but only looking into valve covers...they were/are spotless.

Yeah, sorry Rislone! so, not many fans of it hugh? I cant find the add anytime treatment here, think its possblie to add 15oz from the quart sized container, and have the SAME thing/effect?
And as for seafoam, i use it once a year, in my intake, along with a mopar ocmbustion chamber cleaner. ive used it in my gas too. i think its a mild detergent if anything. But seafoam is safe ot also use in the crankcase along with a new oil change? Or its really just a flush?

I've used and recommend the Rislone. Use the quart sized bottle and split it between 2 OCI's.
I believe that the pint sized 'add anytime' is the same as the quart stuff.

I used it for 25 years every oil change. My '84 F150 had it constantly in the engine for 175,000 miles. Truck still got a sticky lifter, but the engine did not die and now has over 225,000 miles on it for the current owner, who no longer uses Rislone in it.

I quit Rislone when I read the oil analysis of it on this site. I don't think it hurts anything, but not sure it does much good.

If you are going to use it, go with the concentrate. Why add more thin base oil. The concentrate is supposed to have as much of the "good stuff" (whatever that may be) as the big can. The rest is just a thin base oil.

I'm tempted to run the smaller bottle for 700 miles at the end of an OCI. Seems that way you can get most of the claimed benefits without keeping it in for too long.

Be nice for one of us to do before/after compression readings, since they claim that as one of the benefits.

I've only seen the small bottle at Kragen $3.99 (C/S/K). Other stores around here only carried the quart bottles.

We have evidence that is certainly doesn't kill cars, but no hard evidence it works.
There have been probably a half-dozen testimonials on this board about it, though.
Honestly, it mostly looks like a 20-weight conventional motor oil with additive levels 75% below what you see in regular motor oils.

When I tried some Mobil 5000 5w30 in the older Taurus oil consumption went up to a qt every 300 miles or so, and started clogging things up. Rislone reduced the oil consumption a lot for awhile, but it started to increase again after a few thousand miles. None of the other common remedies on the oil additive shelf seemed to work. Lube Control with either a 5w40 or 0w40 have kept things manageable, and I've got AutoRx in now so I'm hoping for better times down the road.

Some folks are just plain no-so-bright & don't know how to use the quart jug of thin Rislone. They use a full quart in a 3-1/2 quart crankcase using 5W-20 as a base oil.... then wonder why they have engine problems 5K later.

Yes, but remember, it's got less of those than most regular motor oils.

IIRC, TallPaul or unDummy, didn't one of you write the company and there was a back and forth with them insulting Mola and vice versa?

Rislone is not ATF, it is heavy on kerosene though.
At least is was at one time. For many years it used a 30 weight oil with no dye.
May have changed the formula with the swing to thinner oils.
I knew people that work there; both have passed away now.
