Has anyone tried the new Mobil 0W-30?

Yes it comes in 5qt jugs,,nice looking container,my wally world
has it for $21.xx a 5qt jug, picked up two jugs the other night.

will keep it on hand till next winter, still have some of the
"old" 0w30 on hand.

says it takes place/protects like 5 and 10w30 with fuel
savings..

love this oil!!!!!!

I don't understand the hype around 0w-30's. The UOA's that have been posted for the last 3 months have iron readings from 7-29 with the majority in the mid-teens for 2k-10k samples. 5w30's and 10w30's have iron readings
As I stated before, 0w30 is not a thin as many think it is. Yes, it is thinner in extreme cold temps, but how many are working year-round at the South Pole Research Station. Many of our Canadian BITOGers who are experiencing below zero temps this winter are getting by with 5w-x's without any problems.

I think this needs further discussion; I don't see it as the Holy Grail of motor oil.

To some it may be,and whats wrong with that??,, it's a fine oil
thats works..

Ill admit it, Im an oil newbie. Is there any thread that truly explains the oil weights? I was under the assumption it was just 10w30 or whatever is on the bottle. Is there more I should know?

kartracer55,

Here's a link to some articles written by Dr Haas that make understanding oil viscosity easier. Don't feel bad, viscosity can be hard to get a handle on at first. Good luck, and ask questions of the board if you need additional clarification on something. There is a lot of wisdom on this board and people willing to share it.

I realized my miswording after I posted it, but no I do not believe that is correct. And out of the amount of posts I have made stating that, no one has attempted to correct me as being entirely wrong.

Perhaps it's just a coincidence.

head to wally,,you'll see alot..

I have worked at more than a dozen Wallymarts here in Mass and I have yet to see a single 5qt Jug of M1 0w30 in any of these stores. It must be a North East thing.

I haven't seen it either. Good move to put it in 5qt jugs.I'm curious how shear stable this oil is.

So Another question, I was tol that the 0w30 will cause valvetrain chatter at start up because of "lack of viscosity", but would it be a bad thing? I mean I can definitely see this as being a problem because the 10wt oil will be thicker on startup, but the 0w should help wear right? Is that valve train chatter on a cold start really that bad?
