Has Amazon (silently?) changed return refund policy?

Billed and for things we never received then a long wait to get our money back are a whole different thing. I think Amazon added a delay feature in case something shows up. Even though THEY said LOST and ask for a refund

This seems to be their most difficult return case.
It is your words against theirs.

Not blaming you for it but it is unfortunate that it happened.

One time, I had a wrong item delivered to me with same day.
I called right away but I ended up to be a long call because apparently, I have to wait a few days (2 or 3 days).

TL;DR - The help hotlines, internet links, etc leave a lot to be desired.

I can't speak to the return policy but I noticed they make it impossible to make a complaint about the delivery driver. While I'm rarely in the situation where I feel a complaint needs to be made regarding a worker, I felt it was warranted for the few times I had an Amazon driver cause concern.

My house is 100-ish feet from the street and I have a circle driveway. I've had multiple instances where the driver flies through the driveway instead of either parking on the street like usual or backing up and out of the driveway. Two of these times they came very close to running over my dog who was tied up in front.

Two other times the driver has pulled into the driveway, I guess realized that they can't go through because of a car parked in the circle part, and hooked the delivery truck right onto the lawn. I don't mean like the tires ended up in the grass. I mean imagine one of the full-size delivery trucks, not a van, turning about in a single-wide driveway.

My wife and I wanted to make a complaint more so they just stop using the driveway, not to intentionally get someone in trouble. The problem could be solved if they just kept the truck parked in the street like literally every other stop in my neighborhood. Just strange that we found no way of doing this.

I've had no issues with Amazon returns. Although we don't buy that much from them, and have only returned a few items. Deliveries by Amazon or UPS, have never been an issue.

Unlike regular mail that is seemingly frequently lost by the USPS. People tell us they sent something in the mail, and we never see it. It makes me wonder how much of our Mail we never get, but we're unaware it was even sent.

I recall a few years ago I was seeing a FedEx delivery driver dropping off packages at our gate, and driving off. None of these packages were for us. I'd waste my time calling Fedex to come pick up their mis-delivered package. Eventually they'd come and grab it. But the mis-delivered packages continued to be left. One day I caught the driver who had been dropping off these mis-delivered packages. I asked him why he kept leaving someone else's packages at our place. He said "this is the address on the label". I told him that "no, it isn't" he pulled out his phone and showed me that according to 'Google Maps' it was. I told him that 'Google Maps' is wrong, and the actual location of the address on the packages was about 3 miles away.

I've wasted way too much time trying to get Google to fix their mistake. There's still no resolution, as Google thinks we live 3 miles away. The last time they argued your address must be new. I told them no, our address has existed since 1972, long before Google existed.

they are above average for sure with 3rd party sellers being not so good + my amazon chase visa is the BEST!! + considering the volume they do they are EXCELLENT!!

OK, this is new. Sending back a AC gauge set that seemed to have one hose with a bad one way valve. They offered to give me a discount if I kept it. I did not - a new set of hoses would cost more than this. First time I have seen this?

Knock wood, but I've only had one return issue, and, ironically, that was when I used the Amazon counter at the local Whole Paycheck to do the return. Took almost a month of back-and-forth, but I did finally get my refund.
had the same issue when I returned at a Whole Foods (amazon owned) otherwise, so far no issues with refunds.

Couldn't read all the posts but I'll chime in, I had purchased a $50 item that I decided to return within 2 days of receiving it.

Repackaged, sent back via UPS and my refund was completed.

2 months later I've completely forgotten about that return and I get a email saying if we don't receive your item you will be billed for it.
They did receive my item because I had the tracking number. They promptly billed me.
Went through customer service, was guaranteed a correction. That took place a few days later, only to be recharged again a month later.

I truly believe these large-scale online vendors Bank on people forgetting and not following up on returns.
People that spend a lot probably won't see a return not completed or a recharge.

This happened to me twice, over a year and a half. I don't like to have to become an accountant and to have to track all my credit card purchases constantly. I do that now with all vendors.

We return a lot of stuff to Amazon. I make a joke with family members that EVERY TIME we go out my wife has a return to drop at UPS store. Drives me nuts and to some degree I also return at times.

Rarely do we have an issue. In recent memory, I did have one which involved multiple phone calls to Amazon. They packed a bag of lawn fertilizer, which broke open inside the box, also in that box were some health items like vitamins. Being things like vitamins are not returnable it was a bit of a hassle, but we eventually got our refund.

Other than that, it’s at the very least once possibly twice a week we’re returning something and at the UPS store so simple you scan the UPC code drop it in a plastic bag. You don’t even have to wait online. The refund always comes through within an hour or two after dropping it at UPS.

You should be aware when you order something to make sure it’s coming from Amazon, if it’s not check the return policy from that seller. Same goes for Walmart which is hassle free, dropping it off at the store, even with most third-party sellers.

If it’s an Amazon, make sure it says free returns and if it’s Walmart, make sure it says can be returned at the store.
Or else with either one of them and third-party sellers you may be charged return shipping if it doesn’t say what I just mentioned

I have returned a few items over the years to Kohls. It always amazes me how much stuff the people in line with me are returning.

I just returned a Makita backpack sprayer. It went pretty well. The only issue is they shipped the box by itself. No outer box. I packaged it up nicely and took it to a UPS store and they refused it. Said I needed an outer box because of the logos. I went home and duct taped the whole box and took it back and they accepted it

Amazon specifies in the return instructions whether the item needs to be repackaged. That said, UPS store employees may have a different interpretation, or do whatever they wish. There was a thread in the past about "rogue" UPS store behavior.

However, the effort to eliminate secondary packaging has gone too far. I've seen optical drives with a label slapped on them and sent on their way.

I just received an order where I specified Amazon packaging and it arrived naked. No harm since the original box was suitable for transport, but…

Well we are not constant returners

And thinking about the term - how defined? Zero returners for us, for no reason- so basically we return or get money back for items that are 100% on Amazon. So Amazon abuses customers for Amazon screw ups?

Due to rampant abuse, retailers have had to draft metrics as to what they find acceptable. Internally, and even externally, via third party companies that aggregate and track returns across different retailers. Best Buy is one that contracts with such a company. Costco's membership model makes it easy for them to record all the purchases and returns on an account. As they say, it only takes a few to ruin it for the rest.

Bought one package of them, labeled as "Amazon's choice" which worked very well.
Still needed more, so I ordered another brand which were also labeled "Amazons choice," but had more adapters for slightly less money.
Not a one of them worked.
Well, at least the refund was not problematic.

Those labels should be taken with a grain of salt. They've been applied to dangerous products before, and seem to be based on machine algorithms, not human review and vetting.

Impossible? Every delivery I receive is followed by an email asking whether it was good or bad, which is also accessible via the tracking page for each order.

Granted, it is a different matter whether that feedback is acknowledged, and taken to heart, or simply goes in a virtual circular file, but they do solicit feedback on the quality of the delivery.

That said, they do now make it a challenge to contact a live representative, and it is not readily apparent how to exit the virtual circular maze of the help pages.

The trick is to ignore the other options, and go straight for the "need help with something else" option, which eventually leads to a live rep.

I did attempt to find a box at work that would contain my item but I didn't find any. I suspect they just wanted me to buy a box there. Nah. So I improvised.

I got skunked on a return. Brought the item to the horrible UPS store per instructions. Accepted and scanned. Amazon claims to never have received and denied my refund.
I hate them now.
Im assuming you have your receipt from UPS with tracking number? If so it shouldn't be an issue at all. If you didnt, then it is a hard lesson learned.

I know you didn’t ask this, but be careful buying Milwaukee tools from Amazon as they are not an authorized Milwaukee dealer. In the event of a warranty issue, you’d be likely told to pound sand. Acme Tool and Home Depot are authorized dealers. Milwaukee should have a list on their website.

Makes me wonder how they can even get their hands on something they are not authorized to sell… Lol. I have found their prices to be pretty decent though. I saw an M18 bandsaw for $200 and an M18 SDS for $250. Both very good deals and about 30 to 40% off compared to HD.

Also something to keep in mind with Ridgid, where the LSA is a big part of the attraction.

Don't be surprised to have purchases from retailers other than Home Depot and DTO used as grounds for disqualification during LSA registration.

They've even clamped down on DTO as a source to a large degree, since they have sharply curtailed their selection of "blems" (LSA-eligible), versus "refurbs" (not eligible). For those unaware, DTO is TTI's own back-channel outlet retailer.
