What?In my opinion, if your using lets say 15w40 dinosaur oil blends then yeah, a 1 year change works because there is less break down, as long as its not in the extreme of vi's

If you compare my land cruiser with any VW I had, yeah. Not even close.I think VW kicked Toyota out of the #1 spot in durability today.![]()
Not sure what this shortage is. Yes, Worldpac has been low on or out of stock for many OE/OES parts but I have been able to obtain Genuine from the dealer with no issues for routine maintenance items.Work on VW a lot at the independent shop when parts are available due to the shortage. Never a 2006 Rabbit though but still Volkswagen.
The only current shortages I'm aware of are endlinks for the Atlas and some emissions parts for the diesels. Not sure what this shortage is. In summary, parts availability has not been stopping people from work on cars under most circumstances. You seem to be the outlier.
The parts have been short in my area. I seen bdcardinal talking about some shortages because of the stuff going on too. The parts stores have been out of everything and most customers won’t pay dealer price for parts. Mainly electronic parts and some other parts too. They have been back ordered for weeks. Not sure what this shortage is. I think bdcardinal will confirm that backorders are not the norm, but rather the exception. If that was the case, his service dept would be shut down.most customers won’t pay dealer price for parts..
They want the cheapest part as fast as they can get it from what I’ve seen. Some things we will only do dealer like certain electronic parts or sensors. We don’t have service advisors we are the service advisors. There is 6 of us. I like it the boss is cool. The main reason he won’t use the dealer is because one customers not wanting to pay but two they won’t deliver so someone has to go get the part which can be an inconvenience at times.I think bdcardinal will confirm that backorders are not the norm, but rather the exception. If your customers will not pay for dealer parts then you have some real issues. Any decent customer base will be willing to invest in quality parts to fix their vehicles correctly the first time and nowadays, that often involves dealer parts. Your shop either needs better management and/or service writers (who can sell), or you need to find a better shop to work at.

i ONLY run dino oil, and i stretch it to 2 years! You think all VW engines are the same? Wow.
Take from me who never takes my cars to shop and has owned VWs for 20+ year
Buy yourself for example 2000 1.8T Passat, run dino oil for 2 years and let us know how it endedi ONLY run dino oil, and i stretch it to 2 years!

I live in Cave Spring at the bottom of Bent Mountain my shop is all the way across town in the city and you are exactly right on that. My shop is on Williamson Road in the dead center of the city.Have to tell ya.... In that area of Roanoke where most shops are located... Those people are not wealthy or well to do. They look at the money first and that's all that matters to most of those people.
Now in the area like Cave Spring where my sister had lived... In the wealthy part of the Roanoke area those people would potentially pay a fair amount more money for quality parts.
Same. All my cars fell apart around my 8Vs.My 2000 Jetta 2.0 happily went to ~300k with much of that mileage on 10k OCIs using M1 0W40. The car fell apart around the engine..haha
70 freeway 30 street. The oil in the 2.5 looks like golden brown. Still looks good and I even want to put it back in.This thread is brutal.
Nobody has even asked the OP his usage case. Seeing how he has put 300k+ on several cars I am going to make a flying leap that he spends a lot of time on the freeway. For a 2.5 using 502 this is about as easy a usage case as is possible, 10k is probably even on the early side.
Auto Mechanic would crap his pants when he realized "VW's" (and Audis) mostly have an 18k interval in many other markets and they aren't blowing up left and right, and that includes engines that are much harder on oil than the 2.5.
Oh lord, now you've made him aware of a whole different group of ignorant, misguided fools that he will have to educate on proper OCIs. So many engines to save and so little time...Auto Mechanic would crap his pants when he realized "VW's" (and Audis) mostly have an 18k interval in many other markets and they aren't blowing up left and right, and that includes engines that are much harder on oil than the 2.5.
2.5 is easy on oil. 6.4qt? Takes same amount of oil as my 3.5 V6 Toyota.70 freeway 30 street. The oil in the 2.5 looks like golden brown. Still looks good and I even want to put it back in.
Perhaps he’s to used to seeing DI motors or turbo motors. Those are hard on oil. Come out really black, thin and reeking of fuel.
DI 7500mi
Turbo and DI combined I’d probably do 5k
the 2.5 has 6.4 quarts, pretty big cartridge filter.
The oil always looks really good when 10k comes up.
I dig your reply. Take my like.
