Nah, I’m going to stick to what VW calls for. 10k. Thank you.I think either one should do fine as long as the climate is ok to use either one. I’d shorten your intervals to 5K
That’s not always best. I would never go over 5,000 I’m just trying to save your engine. I worked for Toyota and 10k oil changes are because they don’t care about it after warranty.Nah, I’m going to stick to what VW calls for. 10k. Thank you.
After owning 5 VW and 4 of them had 300k-400k before I retired them, VW has been good to me when it comes to how to care for them. That’s not always best. 5W40 is GrIII, KV100 lowered from 14.2 to 12.8. Highly doubt HTHS is above 3.6. Pretty much they made 5W30 oil and in that way lowered Noack. Also, pour point improved to -45, so probably bit better GrIII used.Has the Edge 5W-40 formulation changed? Quite possibly. Noack must have gone down in order to be eligible for MB 229.5 approval.
With that said, an oil does not need to use Group IV oil base in order to qualify for MB 229.5 approval. Do we know if current Edge 0W-40 contains any group IV?

You can use them interchangeably.Since it’s now MB 229.5, does that mean it’s also group 4 like Edge 0w40?
For some time 0w40 edge has been considered superior to 5w40 edge due to its MB 229.5 rating and group 4 base. Are they now on a level playing field?
2006 Rabbit 10K OCI
So noble.I’m just trying to save your engine.
So noble.
What problem does his engine have that it would be "saved" by cutting the OCI in half?
Do we know for sure that this is still the case today?0W40 is 25-50% PAO,
Latest pds say so.Do we know for sure that this is still the case today?
Very wise relying on your own experience and knowledge instead of advice given by a 19 year old kid on the internet. After owning 5 VW and 4 of them had 300k-400k before I retired them, VW has been good to me when it comes to how to care for them.
Right, this is my first 2.5 07k that’s why I was looking into oil.Very wise relying on your own experience and knowledge instead of advice given by a 19 year old kid on the internet.
Hey my advice is solid. I’d take advice from a mechanic before I would another owner.Very wise relying on your own experience and knowledge instead of advice given by a 19 year old kid on the internet.
I also have and have had VW's over the years. I do a 10k interval on them all now. The old 1.8 with the small capacity got 3k intervals. I have historically used Red Line 5W30 Euro, Red Line 5W30 High Performance or Ravenol VMP. Recently I have been transitioning to Mobil 1 5W30 ESP. The 504/507 specification is pretty dang robust. I won't buy Castrol because if there is a corner to be cut......imo.Oil change time. These are a great value. $24 at Walmart. Filter $11 at Napa.
