Has 5w40 Castrol formula changed recently?

The issues it will face later in life. Seen it many times. Consumption issues and worn rings and stuff like that. That 10k oil change is bogus till the car gets out of warranty so they don’t have to worry about it.
It's ok to admit you're wrong.

6.5 quarts of 502/505 will go 10k/1yr with zero issues indefinitely.

I own multiple Volkswagens and at 10k, the oil's viscosity isn't the same for me. I wouldn't do 10k, do 7k intervals, or either every 6 months or 7 months and it shouldn't hurt.

That’s your opinion and not a fact. I’m not wrong have I been wrong before? Yes and I’m not afraid to admit that but I’m not in this case remember I do this as a career. I’ve seen many cars have issues with extended changes and these oil and car companies claiming these dreams with their oil. Just because I’m young doesn’t mean I don’t know anything. This poster I’m trying to help him out and he isn’t listening and you are saying it’s ok but his car will have issues later guaranteed plus it’s a Volkswagen so.... I own a Volkswagen but it’s a classic so I’m not against Volkswagen just advising the facts here.

I'm not going to bicker with someone that has a few years experience on cars in general and next to none on the car in question. You're not the only mechanic on this board.

You're trying to state your opinion as fact while discounting other's.

If you have an actual reason to recommend a 5k mile OCI on an '06 VW Rabbit, I'd love to hear it.

He hasn’t even listed the type of VW it is. I worked on VW before. It’s not bickering at all. They didn’t make a VW Rabbit in 2006 even.

We all have to remember that "full synthetic" is still a highly refined conventional with some synthesized lubricants in it. The more viscosity improvers the more a oil is likely to degrade over time due to the reliance on polymers. In many Volkswagen's i've seen people doing 1 year oil changes for over 3 years, the insides are all varnished due to the polymer degradation, this leads to vvt issues in modern engines, and alot of synthetics like castrol edge does not have alot of detergents added into the oil, which is why it doesn't get dirty as quick as lets say castrol gtx.

This degradation leads to loss of surface tension between the moving parts. This buildup will accumulate and you will get a sluggish engine, possible oil burning, and many other problems.

In my opinion, if your using lets say 15w40 dinosaur oil blends then yeah, a 1 year change works because there is less break down, as long as its not in the extreme of vi's

But he is ASE Master Certified.
I'll defer to your expertise in this field as to whether that's possible for someone that young. My point is that the OP has taken four VW's to 300K+ miles, which is real world experience and based on this is comfortable with 10K OCIs. He doesn't need to be second guessed by someone lacking in experience, or anyone for that matter, considering his history with VW's.

Again not lacking experience I’ve worked on them before.
