my engine hasnt burned a drop after 4k and oil looks great in focus... engine has 58k on it and runs like a top, i would put the duratec and GM ecotec up against Honda and toyota engines, i know they would more than hold their own

Duratec and Ecotec can rev to 9000 RPM ? Can it make 120 hp per liter like the Honda S2000 2 liters engine with no turbo charge or super charge ?

Initial specs aside, I would hold out at least another couple hundred thousand miles before making any assessments about longevity. Good that you have a winning combination working for you though.

chet2,
Ya know, I would put either of those engines against Honda/Toyota also! And I own Hondas and Toyotas! What engine/vehicle do you have? And what does this have to do with PP & M-1 filter? No disrespect but, my vehicles with more miles and a lesser oil/filter combos run great too and no oil leaks! Any engine with ONLY 58,000 miles should run great and not leak oil. Im glad your happy with your choice but, Im not sure what your saying or asking(other than the Honda/Toyota thing). Or is it the PP/M-1 filter?

I think that PP/M-1 filter is a great combo. PP is a better "value"(not a better oil) at the regular price than M-1 oil but I think that P-1 filter is a better "value"(not a better filter)than the M-1 filter at the regular price.

What oil and oil filter combination did it burn oil with?.... and how much oil did it burn?

Nope, they are tuned for usable torque across the entire powerband. The Focus 2.0L I test drove had plenty of pull right off the line, it wasn't super fast, but it didn't have to get up to 3K plus before it started making power.

Yes they can, actually. Just basic hot rodding tricks can and has made it happen. There is nothing magical or particularly special about the S2000 engine architecture, it's just a high rpm H/C/I setup made semi-streetable by VVT.

I know the Ecotec's in the new Cobalt SS's are definitely awesome running engines with a ton of power. Hard to beat those guys in my car. Even when they're stock.

So what does this thread do aside from feed the US vs THEM thing?
Not seeing it...
It's been nice not seeing the American vs Asian threads this year. They never end well, and are only flame-bait.

I don't see the point in having to rev an engine upwards of 6,500+rpm to get the same power other engines offer at 4,000rpm. Sure it may be fun, but seems abusive. I want my power NOW - not thousands of RPM's later and a nice flat power curve is much more beneficial in daily driving.

Hence, I ride V-Twin motorcycles!

my ex wifes cougar has the 2.5L duratec. she uses bottom of the line quicky lube oil changes, and her oil still looks like new after 7500 miles. she does 95% city driving with LOTS of sitting and idling

Oil looking clean @ 7500 miles doesn't sound like it's doing it's job to me?

What does the heading have to do with the topic of discussion. Am I wittnessing ADD or what. By the way, price wise, QS syn. and Purolator pure one, beats your combo price wise and performance equal.

the cobalt ss turbo is hyper fast and beat all comers in miracle mile or something like that...including subarus and hondas...i want to try ultra in my ecotec next OC to see if it helps MPG, pennzoil said it would not compared to other 5-30 oils

actually this was a sale/rebate...it only cost me 13$ total after money back using PP and m1 filter..i am running qs syn right now in ecotec, 11$ torque jug from wm
