Is castrol gtx with a bosch filter a decent combo? What do you think the OCI would be? Autozone has a deal for 12.99(5quarts and filter) and my choices are this for 12.99 or mobil 7500+wix(only 4quarts) for 16.00

Nothing wrong with either of those combinations. The OCI will be however long YOU decide to leave that oil in your crankcase!

Seriously, though - what kind of vehicle, what kind of driving do you do, what kind of climate conditions will the vehicle be subjected to, what does the vehicle manufacturer recommend?

As long as you are using an SM-rated oil in the correct viscosity for your vehicle, the factors I mentioned are far more important in deciding on an OCI than what brand of oil and filter you are using, IMHO.

How 'bout GTX with a Napa Gold filter?

I've used Bosch filters on/off from time to time, I've found them slippery and hard to get off as they're is nothing to grip.

Hey it's an 03 lancer with 49k on it. i think manufacture recommends 6 oci. I would go gtx and napa for example but that's not what the the coupon allows. what do u all think about 7500 vs gtx?

bosch filters as far as I know are made by champion labs. (who make mobil 1, k&n, supertech, and stp. I chose Motorcraft FL400S for my Liberty. I use Supertech in my ATV and used to use supertech in my Contour. Some feel GTX is the best or one of the best dino that there is. Some feel GTX in 5w30 will shear too much. I used GTX in my Liberty because it has the lowest iron numbers for UOA that I could find for a 3.7 or 4.7

Jim:

Bosch bought out Purolator a while back (6-12 months?), and the Bosches on the shelves at stores are already, depending upon location, mostly now looking suspiciously like Puros. I snatched up a couple of the old CL versions, but suddenly, they're hard to find.

Some feel that Havoline is the best too. Go figure!

Guess I'll say what most Bitogers have been trying to make me figure out for a long time... If it's SM... you are fine. Any ole brand will due.

I would not push 5k 5/mo. But up that point would be fine.
For me...I prefere 3k/3mo...but then again, I'm flawed and not intune with proper care of my oil as far as most bitogers are concerned. I like having a continual flow of clean oil flowing through my beloveds veins.

lol. well that's where the sacrifice comes in. if ur gonna do 3 month/3k than u should prob go w/any kind of oil like the ppl on these forums say. if ur gonna get an expensive oil it is specifically designed to last longer. 4k on a good oil is prob the same as 2k on a shelf/regular one. What else do u guys think. Gtx+bosch = 5oci?

I really don't think GTX is much more 'expensive' than any other comparable conventional oil.

And GTX/Bosch will happily take you to a 5KOCI just fine. I wouldn't ever exceed 6K with conventional oil though..

well u can get coastal for like 1.20 and gtx is usually around 2.69 so it's quite more. and coastal isn't even shelf oil. what should i look for to c if it will even make it to 5koci? besides a uoa

Sorry I forgot about bosch buying purolator. I believe I did read that, but at the time it was too early to tell what affect it would have on products for sale and I never heard any more afterwards. Purolator is good though also isn't it? Isn't that who makes motorcraft? (this almost belongs in the filter thread)

Well, that is a bit much for dinoil. But if you have a Pepboys nearby, they usually have a rebate sale every other week on the stuff, which brings it down to something like $1.59 a quart, if you don't mind waiting for a check.

I think I also drove by Autozone, and saw what I think was a sale on GTX...

I know the sale is 5 quarts of gtx with 1 bosch filter for 12.99 in autozone. so u dont think i could do 5k w/this?

I think you definitely could do 5K on Castrol/Bosch, or just about any other "name" oil such as Pennzoil-Shell-QS, Havoline-Chevron, TropArc-Kendall-Motorcraft, Valvoline etc.
